Have to wonder where McConnell - and Ryan, for that matter - go from here. Who's going to sign up to piss on any hornets nests for these chucklefucks after this months-long public clownshow? On healthcare or anything?

So what's next, tax reform? Didn't they need the "savings" from gutting Obamacare to pay for the tax reform to clear reconciliation rules?

The existing bill can't be used because of the Senate rules I believe and there isn't really time to rush some other complicated thing through with all the poo poo they still need to do that got sidelined by the FAILED repeal and replace plan.

The question going forward is whether the Tea Party crazies will continue to push for repeal or whether this is enough to satisfy them.

TGLT posted:Guys seriously how the gently caress did the party with control of all three branches of government gently caress up on the literal one thing they had been promising for like seven years, even when they set the bar so low that they didn't need a majority. God drat this is an incredible gently caress up. The GOP has failed so incredibly hard, at the one single thing they've been shouting about for eight solid years. They claimed to have a way better plan than Obamacare, and it's been conclusively revealed that they never bothered even writing ANY plan, much less a good one. There's no way a failure of this (unprecedented?) magnitude hasn't knocked them way off-balance. It's definitely screwed up their only actual plan, next year's reconciliation tax cut jamboree. Meanwhile the bill saying that the President can't touch sanctions without Congress' permission passed with drat near unanimous consent. That shows that nobody from either party trusts Donald Trump to do the right thing. More specifically it shows that none of them actually believe Trump isn't Putin's lapdog. Doubling-down on that, a bill to block the President from ordering the firing of an investigator (like Mueller) is being brought forth by Republicans. Maybe they just want to keep him from firing Sessions, but it seems like another point towards admitting that even they think Trump has been deeply compromised by Russia. Either way, they're effectively declaring war on the President, the guy from their own party. Trump is going to be furious in the morning, and there's no telling who he's going to lash out at. My money is on "Absolutely everyone." All the people who used to keep Donny settled down a bit are gone or on the way out. With his new Communications Director tearing poo poo up inside the White House from day 1, things are going to get even weirder than ever over there, and in a hurry. And the end result of all of this is... gently caress if I know. I can't even guess. This is free-fall here. There's no precedent for how this is going. Comparisons to Nixon or Idiocracy aren't going to work anymore, because we may be past both of them already. We're blazing a new trail.

They can't come up with anything because their ideological motives are bad and because the things their donors want are bad. Any Republican plan is going to be bad, and it's not clear how they're ever going to get beyond the too evil/not evil enough problem with the slim majority they have.
