I was really frustrated with gaim. Madoka had much more mature characters but they were supposed to be younger and more emotional than gain's, and the ending was ambiguous and not an outright failure like gaim's. People can argue to this day about who was right or wrong there, but gaim is just whether you take Satan at his word whether he's a natural phenomenon or not.

Also I like Oren. He was probably intended as a hurtful stereotype but he ends up being a better character who despite being wrong has put more thought into his position and has stronger convictions than the rest of the cast.

My hope is that urobuchi can come back for an adult Amazon only series to follow up AMAZONZ, tonally it would be a better fit and hed have less restrictions

I'm fine with goofy plot lines and comedy. But I haven't been able to get into Ex-Aid at all because the suits and gimmicks are all so stupid looking to me. Gaim was all fruit samurais but no one cared and the aesthetic wasn't in your face any time a suit was on screen. That's why I like Build's suits so far, cause the only thing that really identifies a suit half beyond its color is the eyes.

The more you learn about SHIN Dan Kuroto, the more it makes sense that this weird rear end in a top hat designed all the suits in Ex-Aid. I think it works out pretty well.

Is Gaim not supposed to be good? Should I be worried? All I have is Endorph's amazing pitch ("In a city run by a corporation, people battle pokemon and street dance for fun. A group of street dancers turn into fruit-themed knights and samurai using padlocks to battle rampaging out of control pokemon") and I was super looking forward to it after I finish Drive.

Keep in mind, I love everything about Ex-Aid, loved the characters and food porn in Kabuto, loved W, loved OOO, loved Fourze, am loving Black, am loving Drive, and couldn't stand any of the Decade footage in the W movies. I can handle wacky as long as there's something solid like story, a great cast, and/or coherency of world design and character motivation. I probably couldn't anything worse than Kabuto.

Without having seen it yet, as I understand it, Gaim was written by Urobuchi, aka the guy who did Madoka and fate/zero, so it's going to be dark and ruthless, which is very different from, say, W. So it's going to be divisive!

gaim is good for awhile but the last third or quarter of it just completely wastes all the good will it'd built up in me

it tries to juggle too many characters leaving a lot of them underbaked and underused(and one major character has alot of their backstory and underlying motivation hiding in a goddamn light novel instead of coming up in the actual show) and it has a lot of cop-out answers for mysteries and tough situations it tries to set up

basically its reach far exceeded its grasp

Gaim is totally fine. I think the ending annoyed some people? But it works out really well once you realize that Urobuchi made a Shin Megami Tensei TV show with fruit samurai.

I really like madoka but I have mixed feelings about Gaim.

I think it is a series you need to see for yourself and form your own opinion on.

I mean that's one thing I liked about madoka. Even people who liked it are divided on the values of what happened to this day
Gaim isn't quite like that but I wouldn't feel the way I do without seeing it through from start to end.

Gaim's final-final episode is kinda dumb but also so auxiliary to the actual plot that I don't really hold it against it. W's ending feels like part of the actual show, whereas Gaim bringing in a movie villain without the series' main writer is up there with Wizard ending on random Decade adventures.

e: Anyway I liked Gaim as a whole, or at least what it was going for, and appreciate it trying to string along an ongoing plot in a Rider after the two-arc formula had started to wear thin, but it had a lot of pacing issues. A decent number of characters have their beats stretched out way too long or repeated, and some extremely key characters are just plain underwritten. I thought Kaito and Kouta's final battle was pretty rad, but the show really failed at convincingly bringing Kaito to that point imo. Similarly I like the idea of Kouta's character, but it's really undercut by a lot of his personal development and upgrades being literally handed to him.

The Gaim Gaidens were amusing. The second pair hasn't been subbed unfortunately and it came out in November '15.

I do agree a lot of backstory was put to the side. The reason Baron is such an rear end in a top hat becomes a touch more reasonable given his childhood (it also sits in contrast to the Prince and the Pauper plot that's going on where the actor gets run around acting like a goofball for part of the special). Sadly it's never capitalized on. The Duke Gaiden, featuring the Warren Statesman, also apparently reveals even more backstory to the (technically) antagonist organization.

Edit: Gaim definitely had the problem of having too many character and not enough time to do anything with them. If it made Oren a one off character and dropped a lot of the sideplots involving him and Guridon/Ornac, there might've been some room to actually give some dimension to some of the others.

GAMERDOME put down LOSER
Gaim had too much hype to live up to, getting Uro was a mistake in my opinion. Drive and Ex-Aid proved you can do a darker Rider show without necessarily bringing in someone entirely new. Its best quality was getting rid of the rigid two parter structure that everyone hated by that point.

Also Donut Lady was less offensive than Oren to me since she was just a character in the story and the lead character considered her a friend. Meanwhile a large part of Oren's character is him being smitten with a man who finds him annoying and weird, and he becomes a joke very quickly.

At least I understood what was going on in the final episode of Gaim, unlike Faiz.
