There's plenty of middle budget stuff still, it's just that now a middle budget is above $100 million. Enough money that the studio is still going to be heavily involved to protect the investment.

Sure, same thing with Trevorrow and Gareth Edwards, right? Thought it seems to have mostly worked out with them (so far).

Ya, Deadpool and Logan are about as mid-budget as a major studio effects movie is going to get.

I'd love to know why Fox is completely incapable of translating Doctor Doom. They need to put some twist on him, as if the monarch of a country that is both a evil scientist with a robot army and a wizard is something they can't do.

Doom's reoccuring problem is that no matter how well he improves things, in the end, he'll either get bored of utopia or pulls some poo poo like taking away people's free will or setting himself up as a sort of god king. Don't buy into the meme. Doom's only in it for himself.

Doom is just a ridiculous character at this point. They just keep upping the stakes with him all the time like a kid making up a character. He's a king. Also he's Iron Man. And a wizard. And he can time travel and it doesn't break anything because he's the only one who thought of that. No, no! You didn't shoot me, that was a robot clone! I'm still safe in my castle. He's such a marry Sue.

Doom's patented linear time travel technology is great and just works. His stint as Iron Man has also been pretty good. Doom is just great, you guys. One day a movie will show this.

My favorite Silver Age Daredevil was the FF crossover where he switches bodies with Doctor Doom. After they switch back, Doom calls the FF, pretending he's still Daredevil, and tells them Doom is coming for them in Daredevil's body. Spider-Man shows up to help, and then they recruit Thor who Spidey randomly saw on the street. Stan and Jack didn't care how Thor was going to get into the book. They just wanted a bitchin' splash page of him fighting the Thing. Sue breaks up the 3 v 3, and sets things straight. It's a lazy excuse to have a issue long fight, but seeing Kirby draw Spidey and Daredevil is a treat.

That's something I love about most of the Marvel guys being centered in NY. You might be on your way to a big battle and bump into Iron Man on the street.

Spider-Man Annual #1 is great for that - there's a bit where Flash and his friends are chasing after Peter, turn a corner and run straight

Not really when you remember what the marketing strategy was. Like, those jokes Reynolds et al made about Deadpool being a date movie? That was literally the idea with Daredevil, they were dead set on pushing the romance angle. The freakin' thing came out on Valentine's Day.

That actually explains a lot. Not that it's anything new. I remember reading a book about the history of Hollywood and there was a studio exec complaining about how some tough guy gangster movie didn't have a romance in it. He said something like "Where's the kiss? Women only come to see a movie like this to see the kiss!".

It doesn't matter what their intent was, it's just bad. So bad it loops around to being amazing.
