Serious answer, it (sorta) comes from Steven Universe. The show deals with some alternative history type stuff, to the point where Anime originated from Australia. In the actual cartoon the anime is only ever mentioned by name, and only from one character who portrays the gooniest archetypes of anime fans. Works harder on his supernatural/conspiracy blog than his actual job, drove away many of his friends, and can only relate to his one romance through the lens of his favourite Animes. The image itself comes from a tumblr blog ran by the show staff pretending to be his blog.

So, revulsion isn't a bug, it's a feature.

I don't know if it got changed or retconned, but Classic Kaine didn't set off Spider-man's spider sense because they share DNA. Peter's spider sense basically thinks that Kaine is himself. If that still holds true, then Kaine and Ben probably don't set off each other's spider senses, either.

The whole "sees this person as himself and it's ok if Peter harms himself" thing must have come in handy when he was a teenage Spider-Man alone in his room.

Kaine does not, Ben does, but Ben spends the entire issue talking about how that's sort of a handicap because Kaine is used to fighting without the Spider Sense and doesn't rely on it while Ben does.

Ben just barely manages to catch the bullet and survive.

I was immediately turned off by the art. I can recognize that's it's good at telling the story, but that sort of ultra cartoony/ grotesque type of stylization just doesn't do anything for me.

There's some sort of line where I tolerate it but it'll instantly flop to disgust if you go over.
