does that dire pathetical quality of the alt-right leaders actually reflect on the degeneracy of modern society? that the threat of "easy way out" ideology is reduced to anime nazis and mewling wimps who fancy themselves testerone-laden great ape breeding stock?

works out pretty well as an answer but I'm open to an alternative argument if it can better characterise all this nonsense

Most of the leaders of the first wave of fascism were veterans. They were used to combat, skilled with firearms, and in reasonable physical shape. They were also, without exception, weirdo gently caress ups. Mussolini was a very mediocre socialist. He had a pet lion and a hard-on for big ugly monuments. Hitler was a failed artist AND a failed revolutionary. He believed a bunch of dumb racist mysticism.

BECAUSE

Fascism is the self-help nonsense of politics. All the system needs to work is bold decisive action and racial unity. Remember how great the system worked before those people showed up. If we get rid of them, things can go back to the way they used to be. It's all nothing more than racism, nostalgia, and The Secret.

The whole appeal is that it doesn't require introspection or radical change. Sure, it's all really just rationalization for looting, but it's a very empowering and comforting when your economy sucks.

this, but, instead of racial unity and racism it's class solidarity and hatred of rich people

Far left politics generally want to restructure economic and social systems explicitly. This is not nostalgic and openly acknowledged as difficult.

Also, equating class struggle with racial conflict takes a very special kind of stupidity. In one, the blame for social and economic ills is assigned to the people and institutions in power. In the other, the blame is laid on minority communities with very little or very tenuous power.

(Yeah, deadgoon is trolling, but I've seen this argument enough it should get a response.)

It's sort of a false equivalence from the get go: nowhere will you ever find Marx talking about the bourgeoisie, in the same way as racialists talk about migrants or whatever. There's none of the judgmental or outright fabricated bullshit, and even an element of their acceptance as historical necessity ("historically, the bourgeoisie has played a most revolutionary role"). It's just that the system they are a part of has outlived its usefulness.

Also yeah deadgoon is trolling but remember that with the most murderous far-left regimes, well it wasn't racism exactly, but they didn't always come up with clearly-defined or (to use a Marxist term) "concrete" categories for the people they eliminated.

Well, you look a little fishy... :commissar:

That was more a feature of authoritarianism than capitalism. No one's saying the Philippines massacres are somehow a result of leftist influence on an otherwise capitalist government, last I checked.

The American gulags are called private prisons.

I'd question communists in how by seeing the world through the prism of class conflict, once in power, they end up inventing class enemies that are defined pretty arbitrarily. Case in point is kulaks, or those targeted by the Khmer Rouge.

Communist regimes in the past did this in different ways. Or even just minor parties. In Richard Wright's essay on joining, growing disillusioned with, and leaving the CPUSA in the 30s, he talks a lot about how he was denounced as "bourgeois" because of his educated speaking style, though he was a starving artist from rural Mississippi who never graduated high school.

This is a superficial similarity. Both fascism and socialism require a redistribution of property, which pretty much requires violence.

Conversely, capitalism enforces established relationships with property by violence. This violence falls on the working class, but that violence can't be talked about explicitly because you'd have a revolution there and then.

BrutalistMcDonalds

Lipstick Apathy
Now I'm really about to step in it, and this isn't some vulgar "cultural Marxist" accusation like what comes from the alt-right, but reading Wright's experiences reminds me *a lot* of the Tumblr crowd in how they're constantly sniffing around for any hint that someone is privileged, often for totally selective and arbitrary reasons that could apply to anyone in the group. In the CPUSA, it was "bourgeois" and whether you got sniffed for signs of it depended on whether you were in the good graces of the party boss at that moment. Then you'd denounce yourself in front of the group.

The similarity is in the arbitrariness. A racist, capitalist society engineered race through the distribution of private property, right? And it's "plausibly deniable." Because if it was explicit it would expose how arbitrary these lines were drawn.

if i remember right, it's considered acceptable to massacre the population and sack the city if the besieged fails to surrender following the creation of a practicable breach in the wall. still true?
