I'd suggest that it's an issue, but I'm coming from tier 1 AWS.

So, Yojimbo would be this - https://github.com/networkprotocol/yojimbo

A network stack written in 2016.

You know that most people will use off the shelf middleware to do this, so I'm not entirely certain why they're going with an open source library at this point.

If you've partially understood some of my posts on networking, gaming libraries tend to layer over UDP as this one does. TLS mediates the encryption which is run using a standard key exchange, then there's an encrypted stream handling client/server comms. None of this is unusual or changes the nature of the base problem of handling positional updates for 'thousands' of clients/objects etc.

expect 3.0 features in 2018 at the minimum (not true, although 3.0 technically has not been delivered yet)
sqlude is still scheduled for this year (speculation - no one really knows the answer)
sqlude is working off a different engine branch than 2.6/3.0 (???) (it's been stated that they'll leverage code and assets from PU, and now lumberyard. Again, speculation).
mocapped assets are undergoing redesigns (again) some mocapped characters have changed due to rewrites, causing dialogue to be re-recorded (Ben and Disco have stated that SQ42 MoCap had been completed for some time now. There are mocap sessions, but these are one-offs for PU).

netcode still broken (according to the schedule update, netcode in relation to UI changes is code complete and serialization was bumped out to 3.1)
updated design docs are forthcoming and will detail some (They use Jira, Shotgun and other apps for project management. They've had project designs created and fleshed out for over a year now)
"minor" changes to scope (as is the case with this project since 2012 - not any special news)

end year sales "barely put our nostrils above water" ( historical data shows that end-year sales are always pretty strong/significant. Absolutely no basis for the quote, and without access to the financials, this is - again - speculation).

Yeah, so why not use RakNet, a mature and free solution to the same problem? As near as I tell it seems they decided to change their networking in 2016 and went with....a pre-alpha?

The BSD license could be part of it; it's basically unfettered, but RakNet is a lot freer than it was.

https://github.com/facebookarchive/RakNet

fake edit: RakNet is also BSD, released and tested.

Real Edit: Ha, so they were reading the internet to find out how to do it.

So I went down to walmart, grabbed Total War Medieval II and, with a brief break from my job, basically didn't know what time of day it was for two weeks and started to dissociate from circadian sleep rhythm. That was a pretty good game.

I hear you, just spent 2 days non stop. That "one more turn" is strong with TW. The level up of heroes, lords and the overall tech growth is so addictive.

So what you're saying is that six months ago, a bunch of information was leaked that would be easily disproven by a single video, or release. And after half a year of time, the best counter-argument you've got is "Yeah well you can't prove it they haven't shown anything it could be that none of this is true."

You've got him there, dude. As long as CIG never releases anything, I guess they're doing alright.

You seem to have a misunderstanding here, when they say Serialized Variables they don't mean serialized variables as you learn to do in Comp301. Their serialized variables are different, and much better, and have never been done before.

You can, but it'll make the phone only receive telemarketing calls and also the antenna will automatically be tuned to christian rock stations, making them play at full volume instead of any beep, ringtone, camera click, or other noise the phone is supposed to make.
