there was an hd rerelease on the ps3 based on the japan-exclusive ps2 version, and that got a pc port that started out really bad and got patched a bunch is now playable but has a couple weird cutscene glitches (some dialog has spelling errors and the big scene at altamira for some reason has two of presea's lines swapped with her sister's) and still runs at 30fps, which tbh the latter barely matters at all

Neat! I may grab this. Abyss is still my favorite Tales game, with Vesperia being immediately behind it, but Symphonia has a spot in my heart just because it took me almost 24 hours into the game to realize it was a prequal to Phantasia...

Tower Unite had a somewhat major update. For awhile now there have been items you could win in the casino called Catsacks, the new update finally made it so you could open them, and they contain random items. If you're lucky, you might get a silver catsack, which might have a gold one inside, which might have a cosmic one. Sometimes they give you some of your money back in the form of bags or chests. There are apparently crazy rear end items like a slot machine that always wins you money, so it's a total "rich get richer" situation right now. People who have probably previously won slot machine jackpots have been buying and opening like hundreds of these things. Here's some screenshots of the phenomenon.

Someone opened up 100 at once

And got a COSMIC CATSACK! I think he said it wouldn't let him open it, so I guess maybe they're not implemented yet

Some of the items you can get from them are decorative crabs.

Anyway, back to random poo poo from houses

I'm always fascinated by the random rear end movie selections people have

semi-:nws:, stuff, mostly pretty tame

What kind of game is Tower Unite? I've seen pictures of how it's been festooned with various memes and internet in-jokes, but I've never gotten a sense of what the gameplay is supposed to be about.

I think it can be compared to Second Life. You have a house to bling out and you spend virtual money to buy player created content. There are games and gambling to do as well.

It's sort of hard to explain. The best way I can describe it quickly is a "hangout game". The stuff I tend to post is just the virtual condos/houses people get and decorate however they want to. There are actual game parts to the game, like there's a Virus FPS game you can play, Laser Tag, bowling, a monkey ball sorta game, miniature golf, stuff like that. And a casino with slot machines and blackjack and whatnot. Personally I get most of my enjoyment from either :spergin: out and decorating my own house, or visiting other people's houses and exploring what weird poo poo they've decorated theirs with. If you have a few friends with the game and microphones, it's a pretty cool way to just chill out online, go minigolfing and then watch some youtube together or whatever.

The downside is a lot of the newer content costs a lot of in-game units and to get that kind of money you kind of need to spend a lot of time on minigames or in the casino. They said one of the upcoming patches will actually increase all the payouts from minigames so hopefully money won't be as bad soon. For the record, there is no microtransactions, you can't buy stuff with IRL money. You also, as of now, cannot trade items or money with other players, other than via playing poker in the casino. Somehow a lot of people seem like they do nothing but play it all the time / got lucky on a slot machine one time and have more money than they know what to do with. Supposedly someone figured out how often the jackpots pay out or something (like a couple times a week?) and you could sit there and track the servers and try to figure out when a jackpot is "due", maybe there's a strategy there, I dunno.

There is not, sadly. There is definitely some Early Access Jank at play, too. Bowling physics seems to change / break somehow every other update (for awhile the pins were invisible I think too), the FPS stuff is all at least a little funky at times. Sometimes the bugs rule, like when Laser Tag first came out sometimes you could spawn out in the overall plaza map, with the laser gun, and run around shooting random people who were doing other things. I'm sure the people I shot who were playing trivia were very confused! Performance and load times aren't super amazing but it's always improving, they used to be terrible.

There was a recent change that screwed with the way size potions were used to break out of house boundaries, I didn't care for it (I'm assuming others also brought it up) and I mentioned it in the official discord and it's since been reverted, so that's cool. They have yet to restore the old carpet texture my house used to have as an option though, haha.

Shy posted:

Indeed. You could always buy it and return it if you don't care for it, aka the modern steam "demo" methodology

crossposting from the iOS thread, it's on steam too (it's the HD version) like citb said:

It got renamed The Quest HD because it was an HD upgrade of the game (and some quality of life improvements somewhere I'm told), then just The Quest. It's $8 normally, but wait for a price drop to $4.
http://appshopper.com/games/the-quest-hd-2

This is to replace the older version of it which had OG PC graphics, though they had a "Gold" version that included some expansions already; these were renamed The Quest Classic. The Quest Gold Classic is probably the best deal if you just want lots of Quest.

The old one still gets updates too, which is pretty rad.
