You should definitely get the box. My main complaint against vanguard and rangers is their range vs. mobility. With no transports, and their weapons only having Ap1 on 6's, they're just not that great for the points in my experience.

That being said, if you get a 10 man Ranger squads with 3 Transauranic Arquebus' and park them on a back field objective, you can terrify some enemy armies with their ability to snipe characters. Especially if you combine that with an Omnispex, which negates cover saves, and Cawl.

Just don't spread them out by themselves.

Oh poo poo, top of page. Here's an image of said Rangers.

Don't knock the rangers too much. Their gun is a strictly better bolter on a cheaper body.

2 Arquebus' in a 5 man squad is solid as well. You can then put out 2 squads of 2 Arquebus each and have very good coverage.

I think it really comes down to how you want to use them. I really like the carbines combined with the grapnel launchers because I intend to be using the Reivers primarily as a harassment unit and/or midfield objective grabber. Giving them an average of 9-10 inches of movement per turn while ignoring vertical distances and still being able to shoot seems like exactly what I want.

Conversely I know Clutche was talking a lot about how he wanted to focus on using them for disrupting the enemy in assault and wanted to give his Reivers knives. I play Blood Angels and have some significantly better options for stabbing things but this seems like a solid choice for vanilla marines.

They're a pretty flexible unit and most importantly pretty cheap for Primaris, costing basically the same as Intercessors.

2x Devs, 1x 4 HBs, 1x 4 lascannons

6x Razorbacks, 3x las/plas, 3x asscan

IG:

Company Commander
Tempestor Prime
Primaris Psyker

2x Scions, double plasma
1x Infantry, flamer

2x solo Scout Sentinels, autocannons

2x HWTs, autocannons
1x Manticore

2k on the button.

9 CPs (6 really since 3 are going on the Chapter Master), re-rolls to hit everywhere, tons of crowd control, a cheerful squad of IG infantry whose only job is to take up a 3rd Troop slot and stand in front of everyone else to push back deep strikers, and shitloads of auto-, rear end- and lascans, plus two Smiters.

There's obvious fat in there (I had exactly 160pts spare and in went the Ironclad, which is relatively points inefficient but also one of my favourite toys) but gently caress it, it's probably good enough to club some seals.

I'm dying to buy into AdMech but I have no idea how they play or whatever, just that they look awesome. When you already have 4 armies a 5th is extraneous and yet here I am.

this list is fatter than me in 2009

You don't need to buy units that actually fit into the dedicated transports you purchase. Bobby G is the man to buff those razorbacks, not some garbage waste three CP on rerolls to make a ghetto pedro+a LT that only rerolls 1s instead of all wounds. You have a tempestor prime but not a 4x plasma command squad, The libby, company commander, dread, sentinels, and primas psyker all seem like unfocused dudes there just to be there. Manticores are good, but mortar HWTs are the new hotness.

Keeping with what's probably in your collection:

Spearhead detachment
HQ
- tempestor prime
- tempestor prime
Troops
- 46 conscripts
- 5 scions, 2 plasma
- 5 scions, 2 plasma
Elite
- scion command squad 4 plasma
- scion command squad 4 plasma
Heavy
-HWS 3x autocannon
-HWS 3x autocannon
- manticore
Dedicated:
-6x assbacks

Supreme Command detachment
- 3x primaris pskyer
- commisar
- Bobby G

Supreme Command Detachment
- 3x primaris pskyer
- Harkar

Hakar gives you a reroll 1 bubble that can stay put while bobby G heads out with the razors. You get 4 drop plasma teams that all reroll ones, and 6 smite platforms behind 46 conscripts to stop first turn nonsense. Also 9 command points since bobby G gives you 3 and 3 detachments.

This is close to what I'm figuring out right now. I want to put stormravens/6x mortar teams/3xearthshakers in it though because I'm boring and hate fun. :geno:

I have like 1/3rd of the plasmas in that list and no Guilliman - my IG is super limited because I own pretty much what was good in 5th and nothing else (so I have about ten thousand meltaguns which are now poo poo tier, and very little plasma). e: also only 3 asscans, hence the las/plas.

Yeah. It's one per unit. Not "one per unit that can legally fit in the transport and even if that was the restriction you could take inquisition acolytes at 8ppm"

You need to pick up Bobby G, he's very worth it. Otherwise I'd run Azreal for a 4++ bubble or Pedro because he is the cheapest. Primaris pskyers can kind of be anything, I use my crazy flagrant dudes. Trade the assbacks for lasplas which is fine. And with whatever points you are missing run stormravens because they are broken with rerolls. But you are on to the imperium soup. Some reroll bubble surrounded by some efficient shooting that is probably razorbacks, some sort of screen and fill in the rest with cheap IG artillery and drop plasma.

And I hear ya. I have a ton of plasma I made with plasma pistols and cut up lasguns. They look pretty good and are cheap. Also [ask] me about owning 10 chimeras for 3 editions of them being terrible. :(

I have a bunch of what are now Wyrdvane Psykers who could happily go in as Primaris instead, it's just taking me forever to get my head around all the random new detachment set-ups especially since my life is revision + marathon training right now. Handsome, sophisticated space elves.
So having resisted the siren lure of 40k for years the new edition has me excited enough to finally get around to trying to get my eldar in gear and play some games. First order of business is to assemble the wraithknight and wraithguard that have been sitting in their boxes for years since my last brief bout of enthusiasm. For those familiar with the new edition, what weapon sets work best? From reading the index, I can't see a compelling reason not to just put the default wraithcannons on the knight, and I'm leaning towards basic wraithcannons for the guard.

Anything that people think is especially good/bad in eldar this edition? Last time I was playing at all dire avengers in wave serpents backed up by wraithlords was where it was at (I can field 2 units of each of the previously mentioned things), and my collection also has medium size squads of most aspect warriors and a decent pool of guardians both defender and storm. Things I feel like I might be missing is a big artillery tank (night spinner looks like fun), a flyer, some wind riders or (and whisper it) vipers look like they might finally be OK in this edition. Any suggestions?

Also a bunch of Eldar stuff is showing as no longer available on the web store. Is that because they're end-of-living some of the range or just because they're temporarily sold out?

On that note, we haven't actually seen the Emperor's Children strategem either--the one revealed is a CSM strategem for Slaanesh units, while Endless Violence (or something similar) is the named trait for Emperor's Children. Likewise, while the World Eaters' strategem is probably similar to the Black Templars' anti-psyker power, we're also probably going to see a generic Khorne power in the mix. Could be real interesting, especially if there's no limitations on marked units in Iron Warriors/Night Lords/Alpha Legion.

Welcome back dude.

For the sold out stuff, GW tends to stick a warning on their social media and store when they're about to discontinue an item, does a last chance to buy thing. Those sold out kits are likely just getting a reboxing with the new 8th ed rules on the instructions/new box layout.

Pretty much everything Eldar have is in a good place right now. They're not the unstoppable poo poo-wreckers they were in 7th but there's no real trap options outside of Storm Guardians from what I can tell.
