It Was All A Dream
I have been doing 5/3/1 with the BBB accessory work for a while and I overall really enjoy it. However, I have recently gotten more serious about running and the leg accessory work on top of that is really beating my legs up and isn't sustainable long term. Does anyone have any experience with dropping the BBB leg accessory work entirely? In the book Wendler lists it as an option but I get the feeling that was geared towards people with a squat in the 600 range, not just south of 400.

To be clear I would still be doing all my other accessory work just not 5 sets of 10 for squats and trap deads

Lock eyes earlier during setup to avoid situations like this hth.

It's recently become a trend for the serious powerlifters at my gym to wear just leggings and I'm not a fan of all the packages now on display (the bodybuilders don't do this for obvious reasons).

What do y'all find more motivating, fat people or fit people?

Fat slobs do it for me. Really ripped physiques can feel unattainable and unrealistic.

But when I see someone with a huge gut stuffing his face with cheese some part of my mind recoils with the realization that there, but for the grace of god and deadlifts, go I.

the fat shaming thread is very motivating!

That's why I always wear a long shirt, or just stick to my thicker pair. Those regular underarmour/nike ones you buy at the store are super thin, in fact even assuming compression did give you noticable benefits, the material is so frail and stretchy I doubt it would even count.

I know that's it's become the most trite term in the industry but there really is something behind the idea of 'overtraining' and extensive running combined with heavy strength training is one way of getting there. Whether it's a lack of recovery time, repetitive motion injuries, or whatever - listen to your body first and foremost.

Staying healthy and losing a bit off your squat is 100x better for you than getting injured and losing both your squat and running progress.

Thanks everybody! Since I hit one of my big goals I decided to take a look back at some of my notes.

July 1st, 2015 I realized my flabby body from a life in an office needed to change so I started lifting at the rec center.

January 8th, 2016 I began powerlifting at a warehouse powerlifting gym as a hobby after months of bro-lifting and loving around not seeing the results I wanted.
My numbers were:
Squat 145x5
Bench 105x5
DL 165x3
Body weight 190lbs

January 28th, 2017 I competed in my first ever powerlifting meet using a belt and knee sleeves (which were not used for any of my other numbers posted here):
Squat 330x1
Bench 185x1
DL 325x1
Body weight 193lbs (cut liquid and carbs for about 7 pounds off my walking around weight)

At the meet I injured a vein in my leg and had to take a full month off. Wasn't allowed to lift "anything over 5lbs" until I was cleared by a specialist, I dropped to 185lbs and lost a lot of progress.

Today August 8th, 2017 my numbers are:
Squat 315x3
Bench 205x1
DL 345x1
Body weight 203 lbs

Its been a blast and I look forward with a mixture of excitement and dread everyday I lift. A great sport with great people.

got back from the urologist. He has to do more blood work, but he said more than likely I will just be able to pick myself between trying the pills to stimulate T production, the gel, or the injectable test. hrmm....

edit: in all seriousness injectable T is probably best if insurance gives me a hard time, it's supposed to be cheap isn't it.

injured a vein? wtd that sounds terrible and i didn't think it was possible. so all of the vascularity we're proud of means that we're close to rupturing everywhere?

Asked this in the serious thread but thought I'd throw it in here too in case anyone had any thoughts (beyond eat more salami, although I'd accept that too).

Out of curiosity, I just had some blood work done, and my total testosterone is 595ng/Dl (approximately the middle of the range from 249 to 836) but my free testosterone is at 9.3pg/ml on a range of 8-27pg/ml. Is the total or free more important, and is the free amount something to be concerned about?

Drunk Driver Dad
Feb 18, 2005
I've always heard free is more important, but I didn't ask any of those questions about regards to lifting other than if it would help my recovery in the Dr office. didn't want to look like a steroid seeker, but since mine tested at 270 and 6.9 I guess it's previous obvious I need something to fix it.

Have you googled typical testosterone levels for men your age? I seem to remember guys in their early 30s generally should be sitting around 600 on average(dunno about free test), and mine are around what a 70-80 year old man would have. Do you have any symptoms? I feel fatigued as poo poo, every single day sometimes to a lesser degree, sometimes worse but it's always there despite what sleep I get. I quit drinking too, so people can hush the gently caress up about that. I also feel horny enough to jack off maybe once every 1-2 weeks and have had zero interest in trying to date even though I'd like to get another girlfriend one day.

I gotta go give another blood sample at 8am for it today and go to bed after, I haven't had more than 2-3 good nights sleep in a row for 3 weeks now.

e: Ask Dilber in his fitness log. He has low T and seems to know at least a bit about it.

Cheers for the info mate, it's appreciated. I'm pretty exhausted a lot of the time at the moment, inability to concentrate, and sex drive is also pretty non-existent, but I also have a six month old that probably explains all that pretty well! Hope your next set of tests go well. :)
