inferis posted:It's a little bit weird that so many people are demanding proof when none of this has even been a call to action to stop liking him or whatever. There's a lot of people who have done bad things that make content you like and it's not retroactively all garbage suddenly. Like, people still like Bill Murray and he's had multiple exes talk about him being physically violent. Nick is basically a fourth McElroy brother and staff on the wokest gaming website around. Not being a woman respecter is bad for business, and is probably a huge deal breaker for tons of his fans.

Yeah all of that is real and valid but what I was getting at is that the victims have no obligation to share and the fans have no entitlement to that information if it isn't available. E: and also this kind of thing has happened often enough that the people who are concerned about the politics of creators would be able to recognize this pattern because this is always how it goes inferis fucked around with this message at 21:30 on Aug 4, 2017 |

I don't think Kessler and Navarro are rush to throw people under the bus people. If the multiple allegations aren't enough for you, I personally think that should be. E: Especially because Kessler basically did Podburglars on a look the other way basis as he's not supposed to be doing that kind of thing in his role for Sony. He got messed up on this, hard.

I could see Cool Games Inc. continuing with Simone or Pat or someone replacing Nick, though I'd probably rather they just kill it and let Griffin do something else. I'd like to think the McElroys are probably done with Nick at this point and are remaining silent due to corporate stuff at Vox/Polygon or something like that since it seems like no one at Polygon has said anything about the whole ordeal.

I give the McElroy's HUGE credit because they went from kinda dumb bros to three very generous and compassionate people. They can afford this sort of shame-by-proxy and will need to move fast on sending out their message as soon as it is appropriate.

yea like, even if you think it's a 'lesser' thing compared to other possible scandals, he's literally known for associations with MBMBAM and Polygon, two venues that are super big on 'hey we at the very least try to be respectful of others and we genuinely do take making our audience and people feel welcome and safe as a priority'. Griffin was willing to drop a podcast project because the producers of an already scummy reality show were willing to look the other way at someone taking advantage of a drunk person, there's no way a dude who's probably currently being outed as a serial harasser is gonna stay his bff. I don't know about the future for poo poo like CGI but Nick is probably gonna get dumped in the shame hole and frankly that's how that should go.

I mean the Polygon team are, as of today, also on their corporate retreat or whatever to the burning hellscape that is Portland, which could also explain the lack of speedy commentary on this issue. Not sure how many folks are away for that though.

Having listened to some of their earkier episodes recently, I was surprised to find they didn't seem particularly like dumb bros. They always call their past selves out, but the closest I really heard was Griffin's "forever alone" schtick.

The thing nobody is talking about is that if he is a "missing stair" and his creepiness was the worst kept secret in gaming journalism or whatever, why did Griffin and Polygon keep associating with him? I get he's friends with them, but his behavior is directly at odds with Polygon's mandate and the social positioning the McElroy brothers have been doing since Adventure Zone really took off.

This Nick stuff is hitting pretty close to home to me because a similar situation played out in one of my personal circles like... 7 years ago or w/e. I ended up leaving a gaming group and then heard a year later that one of the admins of the space had been sexually harassing every single woman there and it had only come out when someone finally said something, leading to every other woman currently involved going 'wait, you too???' I was pretty hesitant earlier because things were vague! But if one of his close personal friends is breaking ties over stuff that was told and shown to them in confidence then yeah, Nick is not someone I'm comfortable with anymore.
