“Your insurance plan doesn’t cover this, so you have to pay for it yourself,” I’m sure is something that has never happened.
It doesn’t when there it’s a medical necessity and isn’t another option. EpiPens are the only injectable. That drug Pharmabro hiked the price on was a generic no one else made. When I was on Lunesta, my insurer kept pushing me towards a generic Ambien because it was cheaper. If there’s a cheaper alternative they may not cover the expensive one, but they can’t say no to the only drug on the market. Mylan hiked their prices 500% and made lots of money, but they’re going to lose as much as 800 million next year because their prices were so high it was suddenly profitable for other manufacturers to jump into that market.

jamal posted:"Your insurance plan doesn't cover this, so you have to pay for it yourself," I'm sure is something that has never happened. If your insurance doesn't cover it, you're not paying the list price. The list price is a meaningless and inflated figure the provider submits to an insurer as a negotiating tactic. It's not the price that gets charged to someone who walks in off the street and says "Well, I don't have any insurance, but I'll pay you for this myself." Healthcare pricing is insanely opaque.

Oh, so that person who walks in off the street still pays exactly the same as before the huge price hike on this specific drug?

Scarf posted:Is... is that an out? Nope. If the ball hits a runner off a throw, it's still a live ball, but the runner is not out. If it hits the runner in fair territory after a hit, but before a fielder has touched the ball, then they're called out on interference. It's why when people are on third base they stand in foul territory to avoid being called out on that rule.

I saw the whole "buy cheap furniture online... turns out it's a miniature" as a joke on a sitcom years ago. It was The Middle too, which is probably the whitest sitcom that was ever white.
