FORUMS NO.1 SLEEPY DAWGS MEMESTER

Watching these Western Clash games, it becomes painfully obvious that there are some heroes which just aren't played at these higher levels. Is it this level of play that Blizzard generally makes hero changes for, or is it more of a 50/50 combination of high tier play and player suggestions?

Azmodan, Butcher, Murky, Probius, Cho'Gall, Zagara, Kerrigan, Nazeebo, Sgt. Hammer and at least three others are nowhere to be seen...this seems like a not-negligible # of potential heroes that just dont see use.

Chogall picked in the korean scene, hilarious game.

Yeah, I guess that makes sense. There's also some redundancy among certain heroes so it's not necessary for all of them to be perfectly viable for all situations. Really, Im just super disappointed that Im not seeing any Gazlowe/Probius play.

As it turns out, having all heroes be viable is basically impossible. Like, do other MOBAs have all their characters played equally at the pro level? Somehow, I'm doubtful.

And anyway, a number of these heroes are niche picks. Cho'gall and Kerrigan pop up here and there, usually based on map. Nazeebo occasionally experiences resurgences because he's generally very solid. And Hammer was, in fact, played just today by Team Liquid.

And blah blah blah pros are a small fraction of the game blah blah blah.

I mean, something like 90+ of the 114 Dota 2 heroes have been picked so far at The International, so. :v: I would posit it's more just Blizzard being bad at balance.

Might this have something to do with the differences of hots and DoTA regarding focus on hero skills vs. items? DOTA heroes fill a more "niche" role than those in hots, which often have a more general skill set with the ultimates and traits defining them.

That's possible, yeah. I just dislike the accusation that it "can't" be done so Blizzard shouldn't bother, because it very obviously can be.

I agree. You can play multiple heroes as support, mid or carry and two different item load outs on the same hero can result in very different playstyles. Blizzard is also bad at balance and #meta, as evidenced with WoW arenas and PvP.

Some things have changed since then, but the last major tournament was DUELIST META and specialists that weren't Abathur were conspicuously abesnt in general: https://masterleague.net/tournament/42/heroes/#tournament-meta

Goons are in SAGoons caht, but they don't wait long between games to find more goons.

You gotta send "Games?" every 2 minutes until you find someone. Folks never get on Discord until they're already in a group.

Not equally, but all dota heroes usually see play during the world championships except maybe 2 or 3 out of 110+. Dota counterpicks are far more punishing than in other mobas however, and the drafting is far more important as a result. Hard countering specific heroes can also help in giving a niche to underpowered / nonmeta characters.
Also what other people said with your items changing the way you play.

HotS is still faring way better than LoL where you will always pick the same 20-30 top tier heroes Riot wants you to play this patch because there's no reason not to.

It would be nice to play with regular group that took the game moderately seriously, but as it stands right now Im happy soloing QM with some occasional goon play. That being said, if anyone is interested in getting something a little more serious together, I am interested.

Morales is very straightforward and the only really complex parts of her are knowing when to use safeguard and how to knock enemies into favorable positions with her bomb.

Never boop enemies because you will get no recognition for the grenades that result in kills while endless mocking and hate for the ones that allow the enemy to survive

He seems good with Illidan and I paired nicely with an Uther as well.

Stay in the backline, use E to gtfo, use storm on minions AA heroes, use the trait whenever you go into bushes/the jungle and whenever you can't see the enemy on the minimap.

Green shield talent (health regen while attacking) works fantastically on AA heroes. His wall skill at level 10 is also perfect for deterring enemy retreats/staggering spacing/disrupting general movement of units.

Try and think about Tass as being primarily support and wave clear, not a damage output guy. Do whatever you can to harass the enemy, but more importantly focus on keeping your team alive.

Did my placing matches for the free gold and ended up gold rank 1 - would that make my next rankup to plat and a mount?

If so what are good first picks for hero league, and who do you ban in this meta?

If you're in QM, and you can't pick your comp, Tass can suffer. Either try unranked draft and make sure you have an AA hero, or duo QM with one. /join SAGoons and ask for a butt buddy.

In a large map, especially one with split objectives (Warhead Junction, DK, BHB) Tass can be a good lane bully. Wins almost all 1v1s if you kite effectively (i.e. poke them while staying out of their range/dodging their poke)

If you do find yourself in a game with no AA shield target, go auto attack build and be your own AA DPS :getin:

What I like in low Plat:

Healers: Uther or Auriel (if you're building a comp for her), BW for Hanamura
Tanks: Anub or Dehaka, Arthas is ok
Specialists: Xul, Sylv for any except Cursed Hollow , Azmo for Hanamura
Assassins: Falstad or Greymane

Safeguard is best used right before a heavy spike of damage. If someone gets stunned and is about to be focused, or a big hitting enemy is lining up to do some damage, safeguard. Some characters like Alarak, Jaina, and Kerrigan have specific combos that they're going to try to pound out to do the most damage they can within a second or so - if you can safeguard someone right before or at the beginning of that combo you can turn a pick into a nothingburger.
