yea Milwaukee Miller Park had roof issues, but they've been resolved and the roof is still being opened/closed as needed. It's pretty nice... stay dry on rainy days, open roof & wall panels on hot days, etc.

Didn't the roof at Miller Park also cause a death during construction?

The Colosseum had a retractable roof. It was a fabric sun shade that didn’t cover the centre of the statdium.

PittTheElder posted:Why do people want a stadium that opens in the first place? Baseball cannot be played effectively when it's sloppy wet. Game relies too much on throwing a little ball across a field that's impossible to grip when it's wet or caked in mud. Players can't really dry it off between fielding it and throwing. Not to mention pitchings already a death trap on dry ground. Artificial fields did weird, undesirable things to the physics of the ball bouncing around too.

The "mobile cargo anti-theft specialist", which is basically a driver who is paid even less for even more hours because they don't actually drive most of the time. Eventually, they might be responsible for a few trucks in a caravan. Might even be paid less than minimum wage because "we give them a place to sleep, after all!"

Baseball is a summer sport, it should be played outdoors. But with all the money that could stand to be lost in rain outs, corporate giveaways, etc, it makes economic sense to have a retractable roof so you can keep playing on lovely days. In Arizona for example they use their roof so they can turn the air conditioning on during summer day games. Otherwise, nobody would sit there for 3 hours.

It's not a coincidence that the first domed stadium was built in Houston. They have to have some Little League games at 5 AM to get them in before it gets hot.
