if i had my guess the thought of if the cleat work being a big issue never crossed the minds of the austin people. not disparaging but from what i heard in our tx organizing workshop they didnt seem particularly radicalized.

that said, the way it was dodged in his bio or whatever is pretty shady. i dont think hes an infiltrator or anything but its a colossally dumb move and now its being exploited from wherever to subvert the work people did this weekend. i still think that linked in profile is fake until he admits to it and that's what has me wondering

Whether modern police are a recent invention depends on how narrowly you're defining them. Cities have always had guards, constables peacekeepers and other forms of law enforcement throughout human history. Also the first ever modern police state was the Tokugawa Shogunate, which wasn't even capitalist, much less industrialized capitalist.

Oh boy, you have no idea how much they say that word.

police as uniformed standing career personnel called "police" tasked with protecting property rights were invented during the 18th century, and were initially private security owned by capital

law enforcement =! police. they are not synonymous. law enforcement can exist outside of police forces

Denton, but at no point in living here have I professed a bizarre infatuation with the place. Don't think that's really the case with you, from the sound of it.

at the last minute, after being canvassed by fetonte's son and various other whips, i switched my vote in slot 16 to vote for fetonte. had i known about his work with cleat i definitely would not have. i regret that i didn't do my due diligence by taking the time to research him before i switched my vote. i'm sorry.

and for some reason the only people i ever meet with an actual grudge against austin (aside for conservative suburban chuds mad about liberals) are from dfw.

I grew up around Houston, lived around dfw these last ten years. I mean, personally speaking I don't think I've ever had a bad time in San Antonio. Austin lost a lot of its luster when I met some relatives of mine from the area that revealed they were heavy tea partiers. Once you see one, you start seeing more and pretty quickly I realized Austin was just about as racist and backwards as my hometown. They try to hide it, but it's there just as much as anywhere else.

EDIT: I WILL CEASE TEXAS TALK NOW. Sorry, I kinda derailed there.

I don't think anyone that was there would give you flak for it, they really were going hard. At my table they came by multiple times in the last hour before voting, and with how mentally drained everyone was from the previous votes in the day, I think due diligence goes out the door in practice especially since no one would expect "state workers" to mean police. He had a good list of people endorsing him, and even people who spoke with him at length were surprised by this.

you can find tea party assholes in every city in america my dude, hell probably loving berkeley if you looked hard enough. as a proportion of the population austin still is gonna have less than anywhere else in the state aside for the border.

austin def has a race problem and is white as gently caress compared to the rest of texas, which is mostly due to the lovely gentrification and tech/out of state migration thats happened last couple of decades.

The problem is that police unions are generally scumbag institutions. I looked up the director of the union he worked for and one of the first news stories is him defending a cop fired for shooting an unarmed black man and vowing to fight it in court. In fact their website sells them on this sort of practice, in contrast to earlier police union efforts that focused on issues of contract negotiation.

Cop unions are the heart of the thin blue line.

Also cops are the guard dogs of the system, they're not workers in the sense that a barrista, a teamster or even a prostitute are workers. Their role is upholding a system that socialism seeks to take apart.

Police Unions aren't like other unions. They don't stand in solidarity with other workers and they are pretty much universally(someone check me on this) exempt from the restrictions put on unions in Right to Work states.

the kind of people you interact with in your city are more similar to people in a similar city on the other side of the country than the other people in your state, like somebody in rural california has more in common with someone from wyoming than someone from oklahoma city has w. someone from wyoming

but even more than that a 50 year old white dude from california probably has more in comming with a 50 year old white dude from texas than he does from some liberal
