It's tempting but I don't want to grow old and die before I get my keycaps because you just know they use a non-standard layout in the afterlife.

Adjusting to a 40% isn't as much of a pain in the rear end as I thought it'd be (at least for what I have to type) and Matias QCs have a nice feel to them. They're a lot softer than my 55g Topre RF at home though. I also just tried out the same, but got 2 because I'm an rear end in a top hat. Having the ability to map every key to multiple layers is incredible. Also, Kailh box whites are real nice.

As in they are not using actual black dye? Also a general question. Is the VA87M identical to VA88M (ISO) in case dimensions? I want to use the latter and I found an aluminium case for the VA87M on aliexpress and I assume they are identical in case dimensions..

Someone on my office floor left a Das Keyboard with blue switches in our company's "we'll recycle your old technology for you" bin. I tried it out and it works completely fine. It could use a good cleaning, but every key does what it's supposed to. I have no idea why someone would just toss an expensive mechanical keyboard, but poo poo, if nobody wants it, I guess I'll add it to the collection.

Ok so since I know poo poo all about brands and what's good/what's not good, does anyone know of a keyboard that has a white case with MX blues or clears and OPTIMALLY has some RGB backlighting (or at least white)? I want to give my keycaps some a e s t h e t i c s and i was thinking a light pink rgb would look really nice preferably under $150 but at this point i'm not picky. I was gonna get the Leopold but then I realized that the right shift key is a non-standard size. I was thinking about getting the DSX on MD but it seems overpriced, and while the WASD V2 with no keys is only $111 for clears, it also is black which idk how it will look with grey keycaps

Did this while catching up on last weekend's Game of Thrones. Not sure how I feel about the pink keys' legends being a darker blue, but I'm guessing it would have looked awful if they used the same light colour. It's this set: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/tai-hao-paradise-pbt-keycap-set-massdrop-debut This is a WASD V2 with Cherry MX Greens that I got without keycaps. Was temporarily using some shine-through ones while waiting for these to arrive. It's my permanent home keyboard, though I may replace it when that K-Type one eventually arrives.

I found my old Das Keyboard model II, which is really just a Cherry MX 3000 USB. I don't entirely remember when I bought and used it, but probably around 2005. A few of the switches are damaged by sugary drink, but I'm wondering if I couldn't just replace them with new MX Blues? Does anyone know if the switches today are mechanically compatible with those from back then? Although, I think it's more likely I'll just re-purpose the working switches for something else.

that's done via uv printing, so it'll suffer from the same rapid degradation as wasd custom caps.single custom double shots aren't a thing, but you should at least try to get something dye sublimated.

Looking at an MK Fission from the quick picks but know gently caress all about switches besides what's in the OP and have never used a fancy mechanical keyboard. What switches would be suggested? The silent ones sound nice since my current 2003 era keyboard is loud as gently caress. Edit: should I just buy one of the $10 switch testers? Go to a best buy and try out some of the boards there. They typically have the 3 main cherry switches (red, blue, and brown) on various boards on display. Everything else can be compared to those in some way (smoother, heavier, more bump, etc than [cherry switch]).

What's this thread's opinion been on the Razer Ornata? I just tried out a bunch of keyboards and ended up really liking the stiffness/actuation on them, though I didn't expect to go with Razer.

Razer has a 'bad rep' because they target a gamer audience and price their products accordingly. Technically there's nothing wrong with the Razer keyboards I worked with (never owned one myself, but my wife does).

I've never had a mechanical keyboard before. I'm looking for a full-size backlit board with Browns or Clears (or -alikes). The Corsair K95 is well-recommended outside this thread and I like the macro keys, but it appears to have nonstandard key sizes, and I don't want to have to get a second keyboard if the customization bug hits me. The WASD boards don't seem to have backlighting; the MK Fission seems OK but people complain about keys sticking and I'd ideally prefer RGB to white backlighting. It seems like the board I want is basically the most common, generic newbie board, but looking around, there are small differences that don't mean anything to me as a newcomer. What boards should I be focusing on?

Wasd has white backlighting I think; if you're ok without RGB it's great. The IKBC full size is a good keyboard, comes in browns and has a /ton/ of RGB options, including just plain white. Got it for my partner with browns as her first mech keyboard and she likes it a lot.

Oh, whoops! I just assumed It'd be the same. As a more helpful suggestion, the IKBC F108 with browns would probably fit the bill. Advantage over a Corsair board is that it has standard keycap sizes for the modifiers if you end up wanting to swap out the keycaps.
