joe rogan also does not think things through about how having a platform that reaches millions might have any impact whatsoever so its not like hes doing it on purpose when i used to listen to it (i stopped for multiple reasons politics being one) one of the most telling moments he had was when he museda bout the time he had on a doctor who claimed HIV didnt cause AIDS. he was like "yeah i got a lot of mail about that one. in retrospect i probably should have had another doctor do a quick rebuttal at the end of the show." like yeah no poo poo joe.

Before I start a shitstorm with some friends: weren't CS gender ratios super unbalanced towards women in the 80s? That's what my mom's experience was at Cornell. I was under the impression it kinda shifted in the 90s when people realized there was money in it. I don't have stats on it though.

somebody on these forums described rogan as so open-minded that his brain is constantly in danger of falling out, which I think is a pretty good description, and people like that are extremely loving useful to fascists (who, as this thread is like 50% about, love to take aggressive propaganda and play it off as subversive comedy or "just asking innocent questions")

Women CS graduate rates sharply dropped in the late 80s and early 90s. They were never high to begin with (with about 1/3 of the degree holders being women at peak)

Stroud made an interesting show that showcased actual survival skills and he only stopped because that poo poo was legit destroying his body. This is pretty close to what I believe, although I think there's a bit of a chicken-and-egg problem. In particular, marketing narrative for computers in the 80s heavily shifted toward them being a toy for boys. This drew in a disproportionate amount of men that created a cesspit, and the feedback loop has never recovered. Regardless, understanding that graph is pivotal to understanding why that Googler's manifesto isn't just morally reprehensible, it's factually incorrect garbage. The trajectory for CS majors does not move like something finding its natural steady state based on genetic biases.
