At the risk of missing the joke here, this one bugs me a bit. The whole point of a fidget spinner is so that the person CAN concentrate. That's how it works on people that have certain ADD type things - it ties up that part of the brain, so to speak, while the rest is free to concentrate on whatever important thing.

Unfortunately I guess it's just a toy now for 90% of the people who have it, and that's where the comic is coming from, and it's ruining the whole thing for the people that it was designed to help :(

The punchline of every Lockhorns comic strip is that the husband is a waste of space and a terrible human being. It's always that.

aaaaargggghhh luann the comic strip is so stupid and bad

i'm dying

I can kind of understand their aversion to giving a character depth, since so many of them just vanish. Isn't it cool that Luann moved to college, with all those new characters, settings, and situations?

(They are, but would probably eat the afterbirth like most placental mammals apparently do, so just as well we aren't getting too scientific a representation here....)

I double-checked on wikipedia because I thought she was an echidna, who don't even live birth.

This is what my life is.

Fun fact: wikipedia's Kevin & Kell page has a link to 'List of Kevin & Kell Characters' which has been deleted and is now just a redirect back to the Kevin & Kell section that tells you that for more information you should go to the List of Kevin & Kell Characters page.

I was trying to look up something to verify a fact, which was that Bushmiller started with the last panel and then wrote the rest of the strip, but then I came across this essay in the Comics Journal in 2012 (http://www.tcj.com/the-lawrence-welk-of-cartoonists-ernie-nancy-and-the-bushmiller-society/)

quote:

Bushmiller was undoubtedly picked to continue Fritzi Ritz because he could limn the fascinating forms of the opposing gender with panache and verve and a certain obvious affection.

quote:

Fritzi in the 1930s was a shapely, sexy glamour girl, and Bushmiller exploited his ability to draw a pretty girl: virtually every time Fritzi strolled into the strip, and every time she sat down—which was often—she assumed a pin-up pose, and she was frequently seen at her dressing table in her underwear or a negligee.

quote:

Bushmiller created an autobiographical character who looks like his creator. Named Phil Fumble, he is the title character in the “topper” strip that appeared at the top of the Fritzi Ritz Sunday page. Moving slowly down the page, Phil eventually became Fritzi’s permanent beau, creating perhaps the only poetry in Bushmiller’s oeuvre: in delineating Fritzi, the cartoonist had been inspired by his wife, so it was appropriate that his look-alike should be a devotee at the same shrine.

I am duly chastised.

I should have said that the cheesecake shots of Fritzy and self-inserty aspects of Phil are also examples of his weird ability to grab parts of Nancy that definitely show up in the strip (like the three rocks) but aren't what made it good
