Like El Yateem in Brooklyn. He's not a "DSA folk" but they're mobilizing for him. Also they seem to be focusing more on local and state govt right now. I'm sure if someone cool and good throws their hat in the ring they'll get behind him or her.

Main Paineframe posted:sure, the Dem won those counties in 2009, 2010 (a massive Republican wave year), 2012, and 2014 (another massive Republican wave year), but the district was totally super competitive. I'm sure that district, which held blue even when Dems elsewhere were losing seats in massive numbers and consists mainly of counties that haven't elected the GOP to their seat in decades, was totally a victory snatched right from the Republicans' grasp again the gop routinely targets this seat, and given the dem party's usual problems in special elections it's a pretty good win to have, especially with a 10 point margin in an open seat. this isn't a takeover so it's not a sign of some democratic wave, but it's good that dems are actually winning these state leg specials since in the past we routinely bled them. performance by year-wise, 2016 was actually much worse for iowa dems than 2014, and the state has arguably undergone a permanent red-leaning realignment as rural america flees to the gop. and anyway, it seems absurd to try and portray a trump +22 district as a democratic stronghold. it just isn't. quote:as for GA-06, the Dems spent record amounts of money and didn't get any more votes than the 2016 candidate that didn't even bother to campaign. it was a huge disaster, and previous Congressional races were very predictive of the result, as the numbers there almost exactly matched those of the last couple elections for that seat - Ossoff got about as many votes as Stooksbury did in 2016, while Handel's vote number was just a bit below Price's 2014 turnout. the only reason that seat was even in play was because the Republicans totally mismanaged the primary, and Ossoff still couldn't swing the win he needed there are you seriously trying to use "number of votes" as a metric? the turnout was dramatically different in those elections. the actual margin is a vastly more interesting and relevant statistic, and in that case ossoff almost matched clinton's performance making it the single most predictive measurement in that race. and in any case, the idea that a race that was within a few points wasn't actually "in play" is really dumb. the outcome was not pre-ordained in the stars. like yes, handel's vote number was just a bit below price in 2014 price, but overall turnout was dramatically higher in 2017 and the dem massively outperformed that year's candidate. yes, ossoff was below the 2016 candidate's vote total but there were also over 100,000k more overall votes in that race. you're mixing and matching election results between midterms and presidential years to try and prove your point, and it just doesn't make sense.

stooksbury is basically a pretty dramatic example of how difficult it is for down ballot campaigns to get attention in a presidential year. he performed about as well as an active campaign would have in that district.
