Quick question, that may have come up before. TLT and FCS? Do I get a TL every time I roll the dice? (Also, same thing but cluster missiles)

You used to before last summer's FAQ. Now each dice roll is just part of the larger single attack. You get the target lock after you complete the whole (double) attack.

I'll be at the Friday Tournament too. I don't expect to make it to the second day, I just want to say I did it once.

Speaking of which, is FFG still doing that Chuck-E-Cheese thing where you get tickets throughout the day and trade them in for erasures and finger puppets (alt art cards and tokens) at the end of the day?

Yep, I'm Friday X-Wing as well at Gencon. Going to lose really hard at Imperial Assault Thursday as well, and probably Destiny on Saturday if anybody is doing those. Oh! Come find me on Saturday and I'll have the Krayt promos to hand out (Hot Copilot, Palpatine Shuttle, Fenn Rau, and some others). Should be the in black/white Carolina Krayts shirt, but if it happens to not be me they'll either have some for you or just point you to me.

Still no idea what to play. Don't know if I can survive 7 rounds of biggs/jess/lowkjdlfhgdsfkjg/rex

Bring 3+ PS5+ ships with assault missiles. If you can also get ruthlessness, do it. Your target is the Wookiee; bonus damage from Ruthlessness goes to Biggs unless you somehow miss one of the missiles. Be sure to kill Rex.

You'll lose to everything that is not that Biggs list, but you'll roll those fuckers. If all three hit Rex is dead and everything else is one or two shots from dead too. If you had ruthlessness, Biggs is dead too.

Oh, no, I mean I don't think I can survive the boredom of playing WITH it for 7 rounds!

And, I think this might be too all in. If I see three Gammas with ruthlessness or similar combos, there's nothing forcing me to deploy everything together - should you just dumpster the bombers with their single assault missile by just deploying separately?

Deploy separately and you lose every single benefit that list has.

The other guy will just kill your ships one at a time, four on one each time.

I mean, I don't think three bombers that have a single assault missile stand a chance against your standard fair ship rebel deployed just outside range 1 of each other. Sure, one ship dies (presumably rex or biggs), but then the bombs are just straight dead weight against ships that aren't.

I'm much more afraid of a single /D Vessery with ruthlessness sprinkled in than something as all in as the bomber swarm - especially because something like the bomber swarm is really only a risk during rounds 1-2 of swiss?

In theory, 2 TIEs are a perfect match for an X-Wing. That's the starter scenario, after all, and I've found it to be quite balanced.

Three bombers and a TIE can take out any ship in that list, on its own. Especially when three of them can throw a heavily-modified four-dice attack. And it would be all four of them against 1 or 2 of the rebel ships at any given time, if they were spaced out enough to avoid assault missile/ruthlessness shenanigans.

Yes.

From a local guy about that tournament:

quote:

4 out of the 12 Imperial players made top 8.
All 3 of the scum lists that made the cut had a Scurgg. Two had Nym. Only 1 Dengar. No Fenn Rau. No Mindlink.
Every tie bomber in the field made the top 4.
1 Rebel list in the top 8. (standard 4 ship Biggs).
2 Bomblet Generators in the top 8. 3 of the 8 lists had bombs, Iain's winning list was the one that didn't have bomblet.
Two TLTs, Two Autoblaster turrets in the top 8 (total). The Dengar and Zee's Decimator were the only large based ships (and turrets) in the top 8
Aaron's Imperial Aces list had none of the things above (other than being Imperial).

The final was against four ship rebels. Biggs ate 1 damage from all 3 bombs, and a single Seismic did 3 total damage in a turn. He essentially was able to joust with the bombers, poop out some bombs and then swing a 5K to get behind the ships. With the Target Locks and unguided rockets, he was able to shoot at not-Biggs whenever he felt like it
He lost Wampa and a Bomber early, pretty much to the joust.
Then his remaining 3 bombers made it all the way to the end, killing Rex next. Then killed Lowhhrick. Then Biggs. Then Jess.

This also looks interesting to me. I have been getting into some machine learning training at work, and I have thought it would be really cool to teach a bot to play X-Wing. With a platform like this, I think you could have bot vs. bot play hundreds of games in a short period of time and have them get pretty smart. Seems like it would be great training.

At the end of the place forces step select one ship and assign the "Know thy enemy" condition card. (this is a direct reflection of his own philosophy, " To defeat an enemy, you must know them. Not simply their battle tactics, but their history, philosophy, art.")

"Know thy enemy" Condition card:

A ship with this condition card must set and place his dial down face up first before any other dial may be  set or placed until he is destroyed. Once destroyed remove this card. If Grand Admiral Thrawn is removed from play remove this card.

The problem with this is what would he cost?

My reasoning was "if Kanan can get 3 Focus when he needs them, why not 4?" I was flying against Scum Nym with two Mist Hunters. So I had them fly around, building up ridiculous amounts of Focus tokens. Unfortunately, I ran over an asteroid with Kanan and Kyle got left behind, beyond the protective field of the TacJammer. He got blown to hell, and there went all 8 of his Focus tokens. Then I had Kanan K turn for more jousting, but he got hit with a torpedo for a ridiculous amount of damage, and then my opponent scored The Dream: two Direct Hits in a row. Completely trashed Kanan, and I completely forgot to deploy the Phantom afterwards, but who cares. Zeb probably wouldn't have survived anyways.

Second game I decided No More Mister Nice Guy, and went with my meanest build:

Kanan Jarrus (38)
Reinforced Deflectors (3)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
Recon Specialist (3)
Rey (2)
Tactical Jammer (1)
Ghost (0)

"Zeb" Orrelios (18)
Phantom (0)

Lowhhrick (28)
Selflessness (1)

Total: 100

View in Yet Another Squad Builder

Flew against a guy with Guri and Emon. Game ended after 8 turns. Completely wiped him out, took only 4 shields off of Kanan. I love the Gunship and its ridiculously wide firing arc. Also the Reinforced Deflectors are really nice to have, almost like a Big Ship version of R4-D6.

Can another ship that doesn't have a target lock ability use Shara Beys target lock to reroll?

For example a wookie liberator is within range 1 to 2 of Shara. Instead of using the wookie liberators target lock (which he never got since he can't target lock), he wouldn't be able to use Shara's?

You don't have to have the Target Lock action to be granted a target lock, so it seems like the answer might be yes

Yes, they can. Ships without the target lock action can still get target locks via other means (fire control system, thread tracers, etc). They can still spend those locks.

Shara lets others treat her lock tokens as if they were their own, meaning they can spend them.

Reminds me of an argument we had on a local group about how Targeting Synchronizer works with Omega Leader (spoiler, it doesn't)

Omega Leader is right next to a Starkiller Base Pilot in an Upsilon with Weapons Engineer and Targeting Synchronizer. On the other side is Luke Skywalker and Biggs. Omega Leader has a lock on Biggs, Starkiller Base Pilot has a lock on Biggs and Luke.

Omega Leader's ability reads "Enemy ships that you have locked cannot modify any dice when attacking you or defending against your attacks."
Targeting Synchronizer reads "When a friendly ship at Range 1-2 is attacking a ship you have locked, the friendly ship treats the "Attack (target lock): header as "Attack:." If a game effect instructs that ship to spend a target lock, it may spend your target lock instead."

If Omega Leader is attacking Biggs, Omega Leader can spend the Starkiller Base Pilot's target lock to reroll Omega Leader's attack dice. Maintaining Omega Leader's lock on Biggs means that Biggs cannot modify his defense dice with a focus.
If Omega Leader was attacking Luke, whether or not Omega Leader chooses to spend Starkiller Base Pilot's target lock on Luke, Luke can still modify his own defense dice. Similarly, if Luke was shooting back at Omega Leader, he could still modify his own attack dice.

Some people argued wrongly and passionately that in that case, nobody may mod when attacking or defending against O Leader. But Omega Leader only ever has one ship locked in this scenario (Biggs), even though Omega Leader can spend his buddy's target lock for a reroll on either ship, he only ever had Biggs locked.

Those people are dumb. Targ Synchronizer says "spend". You don't spend a lock for OL's ability. Ergo Targ Synchronizer doesn't work.
