After AAI2, I can only assume Gummy is just busy eating better food and being a great detective in between visits to Badd, helping Edgeworth and dodging Franzy's whippy whip tricks.

I think Badd is more influential on Gumshoe than most folks realize because not everyone played AAI1 I want a Franziska-focused game where she's doing investigations for Interpol, maybe as a specialist for sensitive international crimes while she whips their foolish prosecutors into shape. Then it's museum date night with Adrian

Set it post timeskip so 1. We see what Fran's been up to 2. We don't have to reference AAI2 so it'll be easier to localize

With all of this talk of Investigations 2, I finally got around to playing it (fan-patch,obviously). It is already amazing. I've run into this Revolver Ocelot motherfucker and his old associate Monocle Assassin Man . Can this get even more peak Ace Attorney? I hope so

I hope so AAI2 has some of the most creative murders and twists in the series, plus the format lends itself to locales that you don't typically see in Ace Attorney. Enjoy the ride. Hell I may boot it up again, it's just insanely good.

The translation patch is also wonderful (And I'm not saying that just because I worked on it). They really went above and beyond to make it feel like an actual Capcom localization, from names to the tone to extensive graphical edits.

I took the raw translations and edited them for tone and flow, so basically in the scenes I did, you're reading MY words. I only worked on a couple scenes before I had to go back to school and that took up my time, but a contribution is a contribution. I did one of Kate's testimonies in the 3rd case and one investigation scene in the 4th. I remember more of the testimony than the investigation, though, alas.

There's a couple of important characters introduced in AAI1 that recur in 2 like the main assistant and an antagonist but I don't think the story of the game is particularly vital.

You don't need to but personally I think it's really good. Just not as good as the sequel. It's still more Ace Attorney you haven't played so for goodness sake what are you doing! There are few enough of them as it is to skip any.

The main issue with AAI is that some of the longer cases are kinda tedious and obtuse. Feel free to use a walkthrough. It still has some nice moments. Gumshoe's first meeting with Edgeworth, the return of that horrifying police mascot...

Investigations 1 gives us some great characters but the overall story isn't the best and the cases (barring 4) aren't very engaging. It's still a decent game and I would definitely play it before playing 2 just so you get introduced to all the characters. Or watch a Let's Play, at the very least. There's a pretty heartfelt moment in the 4th case of Investigations 2 that will be lost on you if you haven't played the first one. Also on a related note, it makes me pretty sad that there's a ton of people out there who missed out on Lang's backstory due to 2 never getting localized.
