Baccus is best at 6mm.

Pendraken is the only one I know at 10mm. There used to be a range from A.I.M, but now I can't even find if they are available.

For 15mm, I've painted up an army as a commission a few years back, and they were fine.

Honestly, if I went into a "medium size" like 15mm today, I might consider jumping straight into 1/72 instead. Zvezda has some decent plastic minis for bulk troops, while this 1/72 range keeps on blowing my mind, and it's been growing the last couple of years:

http://www.hagen-miniatures.de/index.php/en/component/jshopping/category/view/222

Keep in mind that they are priced as 28mm scale, which is nuts. But they are also more detailed than many 28mm ranges, which is nuts.

But since I have a lot of 6mm samurai from Baccus and need to bulk out my 28mm samurai, there's no way I'll build a third scale in the near future.

So, I figured I'd finally get to finishing up my BA Americans this weekend now I have my Commandos all assembled for now. Except apparently some of those minis have gone AWOL, since I can't find the ones I already assembled. Still got plenty to put together, but kind of a bummer.

I was kind of wondering what I might do with my leftover US marine sprues - I wound up buying a whole box a while back to use as conversion fodder and the basis of a squad or two of veterans for my US armoured rifles. However, I think I have found my calling - US Marine Raiders! I wound up downloading this off Gutenberg and being fascinated by it a few months back, and I learnt a few things that got me pretty excitedabout the idea:

1)You can actaully get Marine Raider units in BA (granted, that's limited to the Guadacanal force selector, but I can also have them support my Armoured Rifles in a generic platoon)
2) Evans Carlson was basically one of the coolest dudes in WW2, hes the guy responsible for introducing 'Gung Ho' into the English lanauage, and was apaprently kind of like a military Bernie, since he encouraged an egalitarian structure and often discussed socialist policies for the post-war world with his men.
3) The Raiders (albeit only for like, one operation) wore uniforms that not only is easy for an inexperienced painter to paint, but also look rad as gently caress:

Also: is there literally any reason to take shotguns as Americans if you can just give your riflemen pistols instead? I mean there's obviously the utlity for short-range firepower for SMGs, but it seems like taking a shotgun is a waste of points since a pistol is two points cheaper and you keep the longer range of the rifle.

French test base and trip report of GW gloss shade. I enjoy painting French dudes. Blue is nice for a change. The gloss shade is pretty good on stuff I can't be bothered to highlight, but terrible on the things I do. I had a hell of a time getting decent coverage on their trousers so I'll probably need to go over them again tomorrow.

Version 4

I'm sure it's not very good, it's just what I've got. I'm planning on getting some flakpanzers, maybe some pak 40s, stukas, stugs. This is just me bringing what I've got to the store for the first time and having a go at it.

Anyway, pz iiis have rof 3 guns that seem good for taking out infantry, and massed at9 will still pen shermans. If I can keep them safe then the tiger and pz ivs can handle anything the western allies have.

For v4, it's not bad. Be real careful with a Tiger I in LW though.

Yeah, I'm worried my tiger will get taken out early but hopefully it'll take a disproportionate amount of force to do so.

My friend is getting into it as well, he's got 3ID. He's only got a rifle company right now but the guys that run it are supplying the rest for him. Here's what he's using:

3ID rifle company
HQ with 2 carbines and a bazooka

Platoon with SMG team, bazooka, 9 rifle teams, sharpshooter
Platoon with SMG team, bazooka, 7 rifle teams, sharpshooter
Weapon platoon with command team, 4 LMGs and 3 60mms combat attached to the rifle platoons

2 late 57mm AT guns

4 M10 wolverines (Late) with scout section

Tank platoon with 2 M4s and an E8

3 Calliopes

It's all Veteran which is nice, but not sure if he's got enough AT to deal if someone brings a solid tank force instead of my lovely Pz IIIs.

I like how the 3in AA guns look personally. Any advice for him?

I'm reading that BKC is written with a scale of 1 Base = 1 Platoon.

How does that work with 1:1 representation? I'm thinking of putting 6mm squads on 40x20mm bases and grouping them together, but that adds up to a pretty huge footprint. Am I misinterpreting something?

Yes. In their trials, the British liked the fact that it could be opened without raising the vehicle's height, but couldn't be closed while you are still within the tank.

Another feature was that you could pop the hatch up, but not rotate, which let you observe from the outside while still protected from above.

E: Looks like that's Cold War Commander only. It's probably not hard to adopt it over, though. (And it's an excuse to finally buy CWC.)

Just thinking of how the CV90 does it I'd say it's quite common for commanders hatches to be like this. As already stated it allows you to have overhead cover while still getting the better view of not using periscopes.
Periscopes are neat but for situational awareness kinda poo poo

It's actually like one smooth motion. No hand crank as I understand it, it's like a lever that also moves on a horizontal axis.
