Schaudenfreude is on me tomorrow - we are taking a long road trip through rural VA to visit some elders in my family.

Edit: schaudenfreude is about rural VA tomorrow, not about family, to be clear! Hopefully major roads aren't closed. Well primarily hopefully the nazis go home and to jail and no one else is hurt. Sigh.

Normally, I'd be against doxxing people, especially if said doxxing would lead to violence against them.

However, since we're talking about Nazis here, and punching Nazis is a moral action, I can't in good conscience denounce this. Also, ALWAYS PUNCH NAZIS.

Internet vigilantes are loving idiots.

The driver of the car was misidentified several times and the people in question harassed online, while the actual criminal was in custody for Christ sake.

Can you be fired in the US for being at these events - assume that there is no ambiguity as to why you were there?

No. But you can be fired for not being a good fit, or not being a team player, or not reflecting company values, or any number of other things that a manager might decide after seeing something like this.

Yes, and even if there is ambiguity. In most cases you can be fired for just about anything except for being a member of a protected class, i.e. race, religion, age (if over 40), sex, etc.

Alot of states are 'at will' employment. So, thanks to right wing employee rights erosion, alot of people can be fired at will, without reason.

Most states (all but Montana, oddly enough) have at-will employment as the default state, which means that either the employee or the employer can terminate the employment at any time for whatever reason. There are carve-outs for certain reasons-- discrimination, certain protected activity, and so on.

For the record this means you can be fired for being black, or a woman. It comes up in the news when the boss has a big mouth and makes clear the real reason someone was fired.

This guy probably does have a decent shot at a wrongful termination suit, in terms of strict law and legality. In practice wrongful termination suits in the US hardly ever go anywhere and it's highly unlikely any lawyer would go to bat for a guy fired from a hot dog stand for marching at a white supremacist rally.

Well, the employer could make a reasonable argument that this dude's beliefs cause an unsafe work environment and he was let go because of that.
