To everyone saying "The Alt-Right is done", I suspect you underestimate how deep in the tank most of these people are. There is a portion of the internet trained to hate "The Enemy" --- the "SJWs", the "Progressives", the Anita Sarkeeseans, and the rally won't change that. I think most people are more relieved plus pleasantly surprised that a major organizing event for various factions of right wing extremists has backfired and sent them tumbling back onto their asses it's saddening and angering that someone was murdered by a neo-nazi terrorist in the process but that doesn't lessen my relief that their movement has suffered a major setback

The alt-right's power had come from its imagery of transgression. As stupid as "we're the new punk" sounds, it kinda makes sense, from the perspective of an alt-righter. They are all about deflating what they perceive to be prissy schoolmarmery from martinets. Their lack of a coherent positive vision - what does society look like if /pol/ wins? - had been a temporary advantage: they saw themselves as jesters, not technocrats. That all goes away once the alt-right reveals itself to be an even more disorganized, immature version of the same stuff that David Duke had already been selling. Not transgressive anymore, just easily-categorized overt racism. It had been edgy for the alt-right to "name the Jew" and whatnot, but it doesn't work the other way around. Without the alt-right's temporarily fresh appearance, David Duke is as irrelevant as he ever was.
