I'm hoping that any further white supremacist rallies in Canada go the way of the one the SOO did here where there was like a handful of them and multitudes more counter protestors so they just went home. I'd rather not see this country turned into a warzone.

A major contractor for the Site C dam has gone into receivership. Turns out the incredibly responsible, business savvy and forward-thinking BC Liberal government handed large chunks of this VITAL INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT representing 100 YEARS OF CLEAN ENERGY and THOUSANDS OF JOBS to a barely fiscally solvent company with a nearly $100 million deficit on its books. This development has apparently been completely blacked out by major Canadian news outlets including the left winged marxist CBC. Juul-Whip fucked around with this message at 21:16 on Aug 15, 2017 |

Mandibular Fiasco posted:What is the deal with these manifestos? Is there ever an example of where one of these was actually translated to action? The Communist Manifesto notwithstanding? Yeah it isn't a coincidence that this "manifesto" is structured and worded nearly identically to the Nazi Party platform, also known as the 25 point Program. I guess with only 21 points they're not quite as ambitious as Hitler was. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Socialist_Program#The_full_text_of_the_25_point_program Personally my favourite is how they devoted an entire point to attacking Omar Khadr. Like, almost 5% of their entire platform is dedicated to how mad they are at one guy for confessing to crimes after a decade of torture.

On my limited experience, I found that Angus makes skillful rousing speeches... but still lacks a detailed policy platform that goes beyond "let's be stick together". At this stage of the leadership campaign it's disappointing not to have it clearly detailed online. Also not a fan of Suzuki. At a grad student event maybe 10-15 years ago we booked several prominent guest speakers on various topics and I remember Suzuki asking for a lot of money beyond airfare, good hotel, and good meals. Way more than we could budget. So we had a Gairdner winner instead.

-Charlie Angus feels like another Mulcair, another toothless centrist out to have some safe sensible progressive policies but nothing to offend anyone, specially not rurals or suburban boomers or the job creators. -Niki Ashton has some good policies, but the few areas she decides to be a little more "radical" or outspoken on she manages to frame in a very "tumblr discussion" sort language that it paints her as a cringe inducing "SJW" to most people , she's the opposite of Angus in that only urban millennials take her seriously. -Jagmeet Singh feels like the NDP's answer to Trudeau. Gushing with style and progressive soundbites but yet another milquetoast vague centre-left platform. And it's not just the candidates, it's the party, it's the entire NDP machine is uninspiring to the core at an institutional level. They keep playing it safe and focusing on winning votes and convincing people they're a respectable party rather than building a movement and winning actual change. Maybe I'm being unfair, maybe I haven't done enough research or poured over every candidate press release or quote from a rally, but as a Canadian leftist they haven't done anything to get me interested or excited and that seems to be the shared sentiments with all my NDP friends as well, even the die hards who work for the party. It's a real universal "meh" when it comes to the leadership race.
