Eh, he's the Warmaster. Way I see it, you got two equally fluffy routes to take -
1. These are former Emperor's Children who signed up with the Black Legion. This is totally a thing that happens in fluff, though apparently they're widely disliked by the rest of the Emperor's Children. Works for both giving them Black Legion tactics (they are truly part of the Black Legion now!) or Emperor's Children tactics (we literally just signed up/are insular and not adopting Black Legion customs.)
2. He's the Warmaster. Maybe he bribed, threatened, or otherwise coerced their warband's leader into fighting; maybe they're just along for the ride on one of his Crusades and he wants to make sure that they aren't messing up anything important.

I do not know who mentioned it in the lead up to 8th edition, but someone here mentioned using the Age of Sigmar Blight Kings models as Chaos Spawn for Death Guard cause the models were cool. Man, I just fell in love with that idea and decided to do just that. The models are awesome! https://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Rotbringers-Putrid-Blightkings

It was a super fun project to get me back into 40k. I've been playing my Guard but painting these guys has been too much fun. Also, I got a ton of extra bits to use on future Chaos stuff. I wanted to share since I'm fairly smitten with them.

Group Shot

Bell Belly Bro is one of my favorites.

Some seriously gross legs.

Also there is a Flyhead in the kit and how can you not use that bit.

Hope you enjoy. After painting Guardfolk for so long, its nice to have such a weird and varied army to paint.

I'm really glad that works for you. I was talking about using them as either spawn, posessed, or melee terminators. They're pretty amazing.

From what's been drifting around the internet lately, we're looking at a year and a half plus wait, before there's even a chance of that happening, unless they decided to use the delay of Angelus to write 8th Ed. HH rules, then adapt what they have for Angelus to work in 8th.

Personally, I hope they keep HH far away from the 8th Ed. ruleset. 8th has a lot of things I like, but the whole way it handles characters just strikes me as entirely inappropriate for the 30k era. The HH was all about endless legions of dudes dying, forgotten, in inhospitable places, which seems to be the polar opposite of the herohammer angle that 8th takes.

I think that's really a matter of how the characters are pointed and statted. Then being a little harder to target doesn't really feel un-30k to me. A lotta dudes die in a game of 8th ed, which feels pretty 30k to me too.

Yeah, most of my games of 8th so far have ended with both sides dying to a man, which seems about right for the Heresy. I'm also in the camp of wanting Heresy updated to 8th, though I can live without it as my Alpha Legion translated to 8th with minimal losses. Like, I lost my Headhunters, which isn't a particularly bad thing to be honest, and playing them as combi-bolter Chosen squads is good enough.

Also I just want to say, Primaris Marines make good Alpha Legion sergeants and characters.

I'm a big fan of mine. 130ish points for 3, with a ton of shots. Fairly mobile too if they need to be since they can advance and shoot with no penalty. Along with hellblasters they've become nearly an auto include.

Yeah they have a habit of murdering anyone who sees them operate so they remain secret. Even most space marines don't know they exist.

It was even deeper than that - In older editions they had a psychic "mist" rule that made them harder to shoot at and reflected the fluff that they projected a constant psychic field that made them incredibly difficult to remember or even look at. People who had seen them might just vaguely recall having felt some gentle thought of the Emperor during the battle, but that's it.

For me, it's less about the number of deaths, and more about 90% of the characters being just another guy in the blob, who can get punked out of existence by a single swing of a power fist. That just feels so much grittier to me. I actually really like the fact that Eternal Warrior, Storm Shields, and other things that make expensive characters more durable, are largely nonexistent in 30k. But hey, that's just an opinion  we all see it differently.

I think I just really despise aura buffs.

I thought you've seen PNW crew's posting? 30k players are definitely a negative. Pretty objective other than that!

The only thing I'd add is that there is an upcoming rulebook that's likely going to be 7.5. It feels to me that people don't acknowledge the significance of this- releasing a HH specific rulebook just for 30k. That speaks a lot to their commitment to staying on their own system for the indefinite future. They're also taking over the specialist game space and 30k has been on it's way to becoming it's own game for some time. One of the reasons it's been pretty balanced is that it was written in 6th and never got fully converted to 7th. They took the things they liked and ignored the ones they didn't. Some of the things people like in 8th came from the 30k books. IMO the contents of the new rulebook, whenever we get it, will be the most telling about how committed they are to keeping the game separate or not.

I'm a whiny baby like Perturabo, but I'm impressed with most of 8th edition. I just prefer a less streamlined game for 30k as it's a game for grognard 40k players. It's fine if they convert it over, but that wouldn't be my preference.
