I agree that they're technologically interesting, but I'd rather see more than 20 cars on the grid and if cheaper engines and better media money distribution makes that happen then so be it.

Edit:

Alternatively go nuts and demand hydrogen powered rotaries with electric hybrid on top. :unsmigghh:

Isn't the real expense/difficulty in these engines due to the crazy injection systems? Why doesn't the FIA mandate much simpler combustion engines and allow the teams to go nuts on the hybrid/electric portion, i.e. the part that's actually relevant to the future?

Create a system where the lowest finishing constructor can buy the winning constructor's car for $1 drive train and all.

The lowest finishing driver is seat-swapped with the winning champion.

I remember reading somewhere a couple years ago that one in three aerodynamics specialists work in F1, I don't think the engines are the limiting factor to growing the grid.

While I agree that the ignition/injection systems are probably a big contributor, I also think its the actual challenge the ICE is going to face over the next twenty years. I think the things that really need to change are the restrictions on design and the draconian reliability requirements, the fact that everyone has to go the TJI route instead of trying HCCI or something else because the rules specify that engines must have an ignition spark is insane.

The size of the grid has more or less remained static since Simtek kicked the bucket. It's been 20-24 cars since mid-1996.

The engines are fine, it's the aero that sucks. I'd like to see less/fixed aero, but the the cars go slower ("boo f1 should be the cutting edge") so you need bigger engines to compensate

Yeah lets go back to V8s at the very least please.

Aero is one of the most distinguishing things between the cars right now, but yeah if you limited that a bit you could push the engines up.

The joke is also that Rubens is a highly emotional man who cries if, say, a grasshopper was hiding out on your cars side mirror and only came out when you drove into the car wash and you watch the grasshopper get pulverized by the high pressure jets. That last bit was me. I cried.

Thanks for the better translation. I figured that was it, but the hilariously out of context subs were too good to ignore.

Most of the current engines are more like 750+ hp. Mercedes is closing in on 1000 but not quite there on the current car AFAIK.

If Honda can't find a sucker to buy their engines, they should enter as a constructor. How hard could it be, just start with single wheel prototypes and then just bolt 4 of those together.
