If Coutinho gets injured then... he'll be injured? I don't get why you lot have brought that up recently. Players get injured all the time.

Presumably, but he's injured so he's not training anyway, the lads will have a day off tomorrow, he's already handed in a transfer notice... not really sure what else they're expecting.

Just find it funny that we told them to gently caress off forever after the last offer, and now they've come back with "accept it or we'll go home!"

If he snaps his knee the game after the window slams shut it's likely he won't be moving for £50m next time round never mind £100m+ and in the meantime you are still down a player.

Just because Liverpool don't want to sell him doesn't mean he doesn't want to leave, the longer it takes the sourer he will become over the issue which reduces his value. Liverpool can refuse to sell him right now but they're deluded if they think he isn't going to agitate for a move every opportunity he gets going forward or leave on a free when it comes to it.

In the meantime his form will likely fall of a cliff due to being angry and distracted, defeating the point of not selling him in the first place.

that's the thing, the amount they offer doesn't matter

i mean i know we've gone around in these circles all summer and everyone needs to scramble to say he's not worth it etc but it's not a question of money, it's a question of replacements

it'll be the same as suarez, they'll promise to let him go next summer in the hopes he'll reconsider and if he doesn't then he'll still have four years on his contract so will still cost a lot. hopefully he plays out of his skin for that one extra season like suarez did because that helps everyone (especially in a world cup year). also players who want to stay at clubs can also get injured

Or alternatively perhaps he doesn't get horribly injured and plays well because he's a professional footballer playing in the CL and wants to get a starting spot in the Brazil squad.

Plus players typically don't collapse in form after a transfer saga where they don't get the move they wanted. It's just not a thing that actually happens. Ronaldo at United didn't, Bale didn't, Suarez, Gerrard with Chelsea, Fabregas to Barca. De Gea hasn't. The only big one I can think of off the top of my head that went irreversibly wrong was Tevez at Man City.

We don't want to sell him, this year or next year or in 5 years. If he goes down and gets injured then it doesn't change anything. Once again the money does not matter. We're not hurting for cash. We're not relying on bringing in £100m for him to sign anyone. We can't sign anyone because our transfer team are clueless.

If he stays he'll play because it's a world cup year. As Hoops points out barely anyone who doesn't get a transfer they want actually tanks their performance because that's a stupid thing to do.

Yeah. I guess if Liverpool have offered him like a "1 more year with us" like they did with Suarez then he probably will stay. But if Barca then say "nope, its this window or nothing" then he might kick up poo poo. Though lol that Barca will not be back for him next summer if he doesn't go this time.

Pretty sick burn on Coutinho by Barcelona to say "we don't think you'll be able to maintain this level of performance so we'll never be interested in you again", imo after an insult like that he should stay at Liverpool

Sure. Mourinho stopped playing Rooney when he realised he was poo poo, he'd do the same to Ibra. Anyway, it's not like it's going to be some big mystery whether or not he can still play football, he's literally at the club already. They can look at him, with their eyes.
