I got recruited to a Chair League team and for the past couple weeks, I've been playing streamed matches. It's been a really cool and fun experience because I've been participating with an organized group against other organized groups, something that drastically alters the Heroes experience for the better. However, ever since I got recruited and started playing competitively, I haven't cared about playing HOTS unless it was for practice or for a proper match because Hero League isn't coordinated and QM/Unranked are full of smurfs. I'm starting to think that trying too hard has broken my brain and ruined the hobby for me.

QM is carefully configured so that you can slampick Nova or Abathur or Q-build Raynor or anything you can think of, without inconveniencing your team. I've been having a lot of fun with right-click Artanis builds in QM lately, for no reason other than I feel like it. It's not even strictly a non-tryhard thing -- I've found legit builds this way (Q Raynor is emphatically not one of them), and there's certainly such a thing as playing to improve rather than playing to win.

God yes I was just talking to my HotS buddy and the discoball is what I just came up with too. I'd ask for the Moonwalk as his dance but Michael Jackson's estate would throw a loving fit. No, HOTS just has a player base of morons. Your brain works fine. If you haven't already, start an EU account. Their HL scene is light years better than NA, if you can handle the ping.

Yeah even when I am around diamond MMR I somehow get people who have absolutely no idea what they are doing such as a Stukov with 10k healing at the end of the match or people who pick awful talents or who die 10 times in 10 minutes. The player base is just really really bad especially in QM.

The basics are: Chain Lightning quest, get it done quick, Mana Tide for infinite sustain, Ancestral Wrath for a very good Blood for Blood, flex, Frostwolf's Grace for on demand shot-in-the-arm or Spell Shield, Tempest Fury for busting a backline or Alpha Wolf (if AW, then pick the L4 Wolf quest), then Wind Rush. Can let off some simply absurd numbers if you get his combo down.

Always always always 100% of the time take Echo as your level 1 talent and Mana Tide as your level 4. Don't be drawn in by that level 4 Feral Spirit quest because the reward for it (assuming you even get there) is not as good as it sounds, and have fun never being able to use your W for wave clear. Try to focus on getting to 20 stacks of Echo ASAP. Level 7 talent should be determined based off of how often you are going to be melee attacking heroes compared to harassing with lightning bolt. If you are laning against Murky then yeah by all means take Maelstrom Weapon at level 7, but if they have a ton of poke and are hard to get to then take Ancestral Wrath. Just judge your ability to stay in the middle of a teamfight without dying. If you have to ask just take Ancestral Wrath because it's safer and the damage is respectable and has a surprisingly long range. Both of his ults are good. Earthquake might not feel as epic as splitting the earth in two with Sundering but it's useful for a lot of things. Every time it pulses it will break stealth plus you get stacks of your passive from it plus it's a 50% slow that happens 3 times in a huge area. The only thing it's lacking in is damage. Take Earthquake if you need a more defensive ult. Level 13 is most likely Frostwolf's Grace but if you are constantly getting in peoples' faces then you can take Grace of Air. I've only taken Spirit Shield like twice so I can't really speak to its merit. I just really like how Frostwolf's Grace is flexible in however you want to use it. Level 16 is pretty open but I usually end up taking Tempest's Fury even if I didn't take the level 7 quest. Thrall has a really, really high base attack damage even without the quest so he will always be threatening to anyone in melee range. Whenever I take Thunderstorm it feels clunky since you can't zap the same person twice, and it's surprisingly easy to forget the last person you zapped. I guess if you're super poke-oriented you can take it. Take Alpha Wolf if you really need the root duration for whatever reason. Always take Wind Rush at 20 and have fun because you are extremely loving powerful now and can destroy their back line at a moment's notice. Lok'tar, for the horde, etc.

Standard Hurty Hammer Man: 1: Echo of the Elements (aka "the one that gives you reduced mana cost and an extra charge"). The nerf to Frostwolf Resilience's healing output is less keenly felt when you can fart out two Chain Lightnings in a row and the quest itself is not that difficult to farm up. Crash Lightning (aka "the damage one") isn't bad, but it is a huge pain in the rear end to get the "prioritizes heroes" reward unless you're teamfighting constantly. 4: Mana Tide. The cooldown reduction is the important part, and you can possibly get three Windfury activations in a row if you time things right. 7: Maelstrom Weapon. More healing means you stay alive more and more cooldown reduction from Mana Tide. 16: Tempest Fury. More Maelstrom stacks and vastly increased mileage from Grace of Air. 20: Wind Rush. Blinks are good. Blinks that give you free activations of Windfury are loving amazing. Tank Buster: 1: Echo of the Elements. You're gonna need as many Frostwolf Resilience stacks as you can muster. 4: Feral Resilience. The extra Frostwolf Resilience stacks are the big earners here, because of... 7: Ancestral Wrath. 15% of the target's health (which Thrall heals from!) is pretty nasty, and is the core of the Anti-Tank Thrall build. By the time you hit 20, you'll be able to throw this out twice in the span of a single fight. 10: Take your pick. Earthquake is popular because it generates more Frostwolf Resilience stacks. 13: Grace of Air. Ancestral Wrath doesn't work without Frostwolf procs, so you want as many as you can get. 16: Tempest Fury. Synergizes with Grace of Air to get more stacks to get more Wrath. 20: Wind Rush. Blinks are still good, free Windfuries are still good, with this you could feasibly get three activations of Ancestral Wrath out of a single fight.

In game, type /join Team League, then also join teamleague and SAGoons. Ask all 3 channels, get 3 or 5 together, and have a jolly competitive but not too srs time. Almost everyone is down for Discord in TL. If they aren't that might be a red flag, so be wary.
