Yeah, but their stupidity was supposed to be in the direction of "well if someone wants to sell Uncle Joe's sippin' bleach and other people want to buy it then the government should get out of the way" and I can't see how Blair fits any of that, he was "twenty-seven new offenses a month" guy, he was the one that the tabloids loved to go on about how he'd banned breakfast cereal and you couldn't make it up. Not all of those 27 a month were bad, and some of them were just tidying up of old vague laws with old dumb names, but I can't see how he isn't the furthest thing from a libertarian hero. Then again one of his first acts was to support cutting welfare for single parents, so maybe that was enough to get their dicks hard and they forgot all the banning poo poo.

That might just be "the left" as America has hitherto been two varieties of economic liberal fighting over how socially draconian they should be. The reason the left doesn't compromise with liberals economically is because the two are fundamentally antithetical, you can apply leftist critique to achieve liberal goals as a lot of it is pointing out that if you don't patch over the holes left by laissez faire economics then it'll bite you in the arse, and hence we get social democracy, but generally the fundamental goal is that liberals look to preserve the economic status quo and leftists look to change it.
