4e had some amazing design opportunities buried in weird parts of it, like the babby beginnings of a v D&D-feeling diplomacy system in the artifact relationship rules, and disease tracks that should have replaced the entire binary condition system, and how they got as far as printing card shaped powers but never actually used that by having you flip or discard them to do different poo poo
