less real estate stories, more bear stories
This year I saw two bears working on making a baby bear under the gondola.

Also some mortgage broker stories. Basically, everyone involved in buying property are total and complete morons. Also, because mortgage brokers are the only people in the whole chain not actually getting paid directly by anyone (their whole income comes from the bank), everyone tries to make brokers do everything that they don't want to do because they don't have to pay for it lol. Buyers are just as bad as everyone else.

Here are some of my favourite stories:

- Bank managers, on multiple occasions, straight-up told my husband to get their clients to fake pay stubs, since they didn't make enough money to actually afford their mortgage.

- People would literally ALWAYS lie about their debts. Then the banks would find out about them, because duh, and the clients would go "oh I didn't know you meant CREDIT CARD debt". They would also bring in their Christmas pay stub with a 3k bonus on it and be like "yes I make $5k a week every week please enter this in as my regular weekly pay". People would go to INSANE lengths to be approved for mortgages they didn't have a hope in hell of being able to be approved for.

- This one isn't exactly incompetence but one client of Mr. Hookshot bought a property with the intention of tearing down the lovely house that was on the block and building a new one. They got denied for their loan not because they couldn't afford it, but because the house was SO lovely that the bank (one of the major 4) decided that the house actually detracted from the value of the land so much that they thought what the lady paid - the assessed land value - was more than what the property was worth and denied the loan.

- Every single time someone got hit with a fee or something from not paying their mortgage on time or whatever my husband would get an irate phone call blaming him for not telling them about it. Because of course it was his fault that they forgot that he did explain it to them, and that they didn't read the contract themselves.

- One guy from New Zealand who owned four properties over there came here and got the first home owners grant, since New Zealanders were entitled to it. He kind of just shrugged his shoulders and was like "yeah I probably shouldn't be allowed this but I am so whatever".

- Multiple people left to find a different broker when my husband wouldn't fake their pay slips.

- One of the most popular things to do for unemployed people trying to buy a house was to fake a payslip and say they worked for BNP or some such company. 99% of the time when the banks saw that big a company they decided it would be too hard to actually get through to someone in HR who could confirm the person's position so they would just let it slide without actually checking the employment records.

This was DURING the GFC. I guarantee you things have not gotten better.

I must be a dumb mother fucker because my partner and I were just straight up honest and only borrowed what we could potentially pay back. Our situation was a lot different because this was 12 years ago, but people are stupid with money to be trying to fake that poo poo.

Why fake your pay in order to get a larger loan approved? You'd already be borrowing at your limit and now you're stretching it even further. What is the plan for paying off even six months of mortgage payments? It's financial suicide, actively sought and self-inflicted.

Most of this would have been around 12 years ago, my husband was a broker from 2004-ish to 2010. Most of these stories are from when I lived there, so 2008-2010.

As the Big Short put it- NINJA loans. No Income No Job Applications, 'these people just want homes :downs:'

After all, if the price on a house will only go up, you can always sell for profit before you run up too much debt, right? Right?

:same: though it has been amusing when I meet a financial person who tries to pull some of that poo poo off before realising it wont fly with me. Victorian Family Violence Prevention Minister Fiona Richardson has died after a battle with cancer.

Ms Richardson announced on Tuesday she was taking more time off after being diagnosed with multiple tumours, but she passed away on Wednesday night.

She successfully battled cancer in 2013 and returned to parliament to become Victoria's first minister for the prevention of family violence.

She only announced yesterday she would not be re-contesting next years election: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-08-22/fiona-richardson-to-leave-vic-parliament-tumour-diagnosis/8831282

Australia's first minister for family violence prevention, Victoria's Fiona Richardson, is taking extended leave to battle several tumours and will not contest her key inner city seat at next year's state poll.

Ms Richardson said she had been diagnosed with multiple tumours, for which she was receiving treatment.

She will not recontest her Northcote seat at next year's election in light of her health challenges, she said.

"I intended to return to work part time next week, however my recovery is not going the way I had planned,'' Ms Richardson said in a statement.

They failed to keep the liberals out of government twice despite fairly earnest and we'll organised efforts to inform the public, so I'm going with the latter.

That said, none of the FTA tv channels would air their anti-Abbott adverts in 2013, even when they crowdfunded the cash to buy the advertising block, so that's a thing.
