So final word on the meeting: not nearly as trainwrecky as I feared, but not as productive as I would have liked. No actual planning happened. I'd like to organize another one that's just elected reps from different groups trying to plan stuff out and talking about projects they'd like to do Because like, the co-organizer of this was a bunch of libs and an ACLU dude who talked a whole thing about the system but not at all about how to help and improve our community directly and like what the gently caress why are we not doing things that can have an immediate impact

Street fights against nazis have been going on in one form or another for decades, and it doesn't really stop them in the way that mass mobilization does. By comparison, look what happened because the tens of thousands of people mobilized in Boston, ACT for America shut down a whole lot of their rallies. It's not because more Nazis got punched, it's because they were massively overwhelmed. And the way you get tens of thousands of people out there is by appealing to liberals who may not really be up to the task of, say, throwing a punch, or taking pepperspray. Not giving the cops (let's be honest, they're the real threat at these actions, not the fascists) an excuse to attack. as not a member, yeah, that pretty much says it self defense is the key in a lot of this, and overwhelming solidarity, yes, even with libs, is the best key of all. We need a forward punch to get actual policy change but that's why action to turn the Dems left while mainly keeping violent action to literal actual nazis holding violent rallies like in Charlottesville is the place we should be hard at the moment

the police stay idly by while white supremacists openly march with nazi flags and beat people in parking lots while any left protesters apparently deserves real action and the media class will always find a way to punch left. Action needs to be done and Support Our Troops in Antifa but how the gently caress else are we going to really fight this without getting libs on our side?

Yeah, the old site wasn't great (the one before that was p good circa 2010 or so) but Kinja is not a good look for the av club. If you didn't give a poo poo about celebrity gossip or whatever, it was easy to skip over the newswire or their video features, but their new review section looks what a dumpster fire rolling down 5 flights of stairs sounds like.
