Hopefully they'll jump on this like they did fliers since it's an easy fix, just change it to closest non character unit rather than closest unit.

That's pretty gross. Though I will say that one of the things I like most about New(tm) Games Workshop is that we can expect things like that to get fixed.

What's the deal with models with the Fly keyword and assaults? I keep seeing people say you can't assault flyers without it but the units I've read don't have any info like that and I didn't see it in the core rules.

For instance, a Heldrake has Fly and has a move stat of 30". Is there anything from preventing these first turn assaults at a threat range of 32-42"?

This restriction works on a per-unit basis. If you look at units like Crimson Hunters or Razorwings they have a copy-pasted 'Airborne' rule which prevents assaults like that (often alongside a -1 to hit from shooting). If the unit doesn't have that rule (like the Heldrake) it works as normal.

Almost, except it doesn't have information about command points save for some rudimentary (and misleading) stuff if you use 'power level' which seems like it could be WILDLY unfair with wargear not being factored in?

Its extremely shenanigans prone but it makes for a solid pick up game and is surprisingly consistent for 100 power being about 2k points.

Power Level's only downfall comes from extremely customizable units, like Deathwatch Vets or BA Death Company. You end up overpaying unless you throw in the kitchen sink. It seems largely fine otherwise.

CUPOLA MY BALLS
https://warhammer40000.com/mission-5-countdown-destruction/

Summary:

Attacker's only win condition is to get 1/3 of their PL off the map, flyers don't count for army PL purposes or for fleeing. Models within 6 inches of the attacker's board edge die at the end of turn 1, increasing by 6 inches each turn.

This is such a lovely mission. It's trivial for me to make it so my stormraven is carrying 1/3 of my PL. 2 HQs, 5 terminators, and a dread are 30 PL and since the stormraven's 15 PL don't count against me, my total army PL is 88. Imperium is attacker and attacker goes first, no seizing. I can fly my stormraven to the opposite map edge, then turn 2 drop them all off and win the mission. Even if the stormraven dies they'll just walk off the board turn 2 anyway.

That's how I run my stormravens anyway. It's an 1850 list and in those lists I always bring a stormraven with 5 terminators, a dread, and 2 characters of some sort. It's FA/Flyer week so it encourages you to bring flyers. This is what I would be taking regardless. But running it like I normally do means I can get essentially an instant win if I choose to do so. They have to disembark first because you don't get credit if they leave while inside a flyer at least.

Anyway, I'm planning on bringing 3 predators, some tac marines in a razorback, said stormraven, and a jump Lt leading 9 jump vanguard for my list this weekend. That makes everything speed 12 other than the stormraven. I'll probably put a captain or chaplain plus an apothecary in the stormraven, which means they'd be just under the PL threshold for an instant win.

My wife refuses to play with Power for the exact opposite reason: units with little customizability but strong stats/rules don't have an average point cost as high as maxed-out units like Nobz or Veterans.

IMO Hive Tyrants are the perfect example of the new character rule being arbitrary and dumb. The cut-off point just means you're flat out worse for going from 9 to 10 wounds.

What they should have done is said that 10+ wound characters can only be screened with MONSTER or VEHICLE units instead. That way a Hive Tyrant strolling along behind a couple of Carnifexes is treated the same way as Gulliman escorted by Terminators, or Cawl in a Skitarii blob.

If I was going to pick up one other set to start a Tzeentch army given the models already in Warhammer Quest and the Start Collecting set what do people recommend? More Tzaangors? Some Tzaangor Enlightened or Skyfires? More Acolytes? Maybe the Start Collecting Slaves to Darkness?

I have a large Space Marines army, and I am considering expanding into Chaos by using Space Wolves models as Khorne stuff, actuakl new DG models as Nurgle stuff, and Sylvaneth/Dryads as demons, and having a Renegades/Traitor GUard detachment as backup.

Just to sanity check, no one will really give me a hard time about using loyalist models as Chaos, as long as everything is properly WYSIWYG and its clear I'm not just codex-jumping for shits sake, right? I just don't want to start over and kinda want to represent the trajectory of a marine chapter falling to chaos over time, and get some use out of my army instead of starting over with two completely different ones.
