Yeah the onion is the great folly of the site visit photo op going bad. I.e offer an MP locally grown food and they kind of have to chow down as the cameras hover. If you avoid eating food in the hopes horrid still frames of your face contorting around a sausage won't appear on Twitter, you run the risk of looking uncaring. Abbott ate the onion and looked demented. He also had a weird habit of hoovering up leftover lamb chop fat from people's plates. There was a British MP who won hearts and minds by eating a hotdog with cutlery. Another point with Tony Abbott failing at being a priest. Accounts of his time at university note he was unable to abstain from lots of sex and booze. His boozy uni days became a talking point early in his career as it came up that he might have had allegedly fathered a kid. Adding to the weirdness this potential son once appears on camera next to him as an ABC sound recordist, both having no idea of the fact. Abbott having no actual recollection of which women he plowed through took on the allegations as a possible fact going on camera with his wife to humbly look at the charitable christian option of adopting a bastard son. However DNA tests proved this wasn't the case. I think around this time Abbott also was Health Minister trying to ban an abortion drug getting accredited in the country so the hypocrisy was being laid thick. And in other ironies, the bloke's own sister came out and she doesn't hesitate to sledge him regarding his views of same sex marriage.

To give a quick bit of context: Order of the Stick is a D&D webcomic that made roughly $1 million from a Kickstarter campaign a few years ago. Due to a few factors (an unspecified chronic illness and badly cutting his drawing hand), the author, Rich Burlew (aka "The Giant") has had a kind of sporadic update schedule. The third poster in this thread commented that someone had made some very disparaging remarks about Rich's work ethic on the Kickstarter page's comments, and... well, just see Rich's response at the end.

Order of the Stick has a *really* sporadic update schedule depending on Rich's health, but it's such quality work (if you're a fan of D&D) that I don't mind at all. And he still regularly updates Kickstarter backers on the progress he's made- I just got a new email update about it last week, and the Kickstarter campaign was more than 5 years ago. It was such a smashing success (He asked for $50,000. He got more than a million, mostly because there were such good rewards that it was worth it to contribute) that he promised the moon and the stars as donations kept rolling in, and he's slowly been working his way through it while still updating the comic. The forum is a shitshow, though. Don't read it.

Grey Fox posted:Federal crimes only and can't pardon himself It's actually kind of murky whether or not he can pardon himself. There's nothing that explicitly says he can't, and legal experts have been debating it for years and years. It's possible that a president could indeed pardon himself for federal crimes. It would almost certainly be political suicide, though. He'd get impeached in a second, and the president cannot pardon in cases of impeachment. This is why Nixon resigned and had Ford pardon himself rather than testing it.

One of Abbott's daughters got called out for gaining a cushy in title job at a university, despite her own work being horrible and I think plagiarized. Another ended up as a spokesperson for BMW which oddly coincided with the government replacing the parliamentary fleet with them. And both were awkwardly described by their father as having the greatest gift a woman can give : virginity. A virtue he thought all women should aspire to. And yes he also became the minister for women while also holding the title of Prime Minister. He's struck back at the admission that he drunk about three or four bottles the night before a key vote, being so hungover as not to show up as perfectly fine. This is because of his" high level of fitness" that apparently makes him some superhuman who can get by with the occasional drink. And then he compares himself to not being like people in indigenous communities because he's not blowing his benefits paycheck on booze.

I remember reading about how - while he was running for the mayoralty of London - Sadiq Khan had a really strict rule about not letting himself into situations where he would be offered food and then get photographed looking stupid eating it, because it's apparently impossible to look in that situation. For instance: Humphreys posted:On the other hand I would expect former Prime Minister Bob Hawk to be drunk non-stop: How about former Prime Minister of New Zealand Robert Muldoon.
