LOL, what happened this time. I dropped off of that one pretty early too.

I'm so INCREDIBLY PISSED OFF I'm not even going to spoiler this.

The wife (finally) gives birth. The husband goes to visit her in the hospital, and her former boyfriend is there, and the husband gets jealous. He brushes it off, and then goes home for the night. While he's walking home this happens:

And yes, in the next chapter she comes over, and they have sex. And he does it because he's mad at his wife for still being friends with her ex, since every time he sees them together he gets jealous, and "what if they breaking up and her marrying me is just them taking pity on me since I'm such a loser and I would never have gotten laid on my own".

This loving guy cheats on his wife, who's in the hospital with their newborn daughter, because he thinks she might be looking down on him. Despite there never being any indication that this is true.

No no, I meant before that.

One of the enemy pilots runs/teleports away and since the fight won't end until he dies, and a draw results in both universes being destroyed, the protagonist kid has to methodically kill every person on that alternate Earth. IIRC it takes like 40 hours.

I dropped it as well because NTR is a creepy fetish but also I have zero idea of what point or message this comic is trying to get across. Is it just trying to show us a dude who is clearly suffering from massive arrested development and how damaging that can be to your adult life?

Like, the few chapters before this was about the wife trying to seduce her husband away from porn games because he won't gently caress her while she's pregnant, I guess? What the gently caress?

What the gently caress. I thought this series was gonna be fine, it would have been better if it ended with the birth of their kid, but like what the gently caress. Why does this author have good ideas that go well for a while and then pisses on it like they did w/ Genshiken when it focused on Madarame's harem

That's quite surprising! Well I'll talk about it a bit and if anyone has a problem please let me know here or in a PM and I'll stop! I don't know if anyone here has scene the Hannibal TV show but it has a lot similarities in tone and character interplay. Hannibal and Will are engaged in a game of psychological cat and mouse where one of them has far more information on the situation than the other. Also it's a beautiful show that has great direction but at the same time has incredibly b-movie and camp vibes at time that it effortlessly pulls off. Death Note does this too because holy poo poo Light's "I WILL NOW EAT A POTATO CHIP!" line is killing me.

this is literally incredible to me

It goes like this: they try twice to have sex with Madarame giving and Hato taking, but Madarame can't get hard enough for penetration. Hato gets mad and tells him "I waited years for this, we are not stopping now. Also if you'll recall when we were in college, my fantasy was you being passive."

And then Madarame gets hosed up the rear end.

Genshiken becomes more of an ensemble thing pretty quick, and Madarame is the only character who's pretty much always a part of the main cast. I haven't read Nidaime but from what they tell me it centers around Madarame being indecisive about relationships for way too drat long

Pretty much. And they even lampshade how that's all the plot was about for the rest of the series. The turns and focuses the author takes makes it really bizarre and not a good read. Spotted Flowers was kinda cute and as said, harmless but now... This...

I'm never gonna read Nidaime so I'll ask straight up: What was Hato's arc? Was he actually LGBT (well, not the L but one of the others) or was he just obsessed with his yaoi Madarame fantasy and the cross-dressing was incidental?

Like I expect literally nothing progressive from this but I'm still curious.

My memory's a little fuzzy on all the details, but I remember it taking way too long and so much focus that hardly anyone else got a decent story arc. It kept teasing whether Hato is gay or not (he wasn't IIRC), and whether he's into Madarame or not (kind of, sort of?).

It didn't help that it fetishized Hato's crossdressing, and that it got really weird/creepy. Like it made it look like Hato is dressing up to look like his dead friend, except she's not dead and she's dating Hato's brother? Or that whenever Hato's not crossdressing, his "female side" appears as his shoulder angel to tell him it'd be so hot to tap Madarame.

And I remember that this all clashed with Madarame getting his own harem, and how he can't man up and decide who to date, and it walked back his character development of being over Saki (his wife in the other series). It ended with Saki and the rest of the OG Genshiken holding an intervention for Madarame's indecisiveness, and that she's the one who sorted out Madarame's issues.

...And then Madarame ends up with Sue, the foreign exchange student who mostly communicates with catchphrases from anime. And looks like she's a 12 year old, not a college student.

I'll admit I might have gotten some of the details wrong, but I just don't feel like going back to Nidaime to double-check it.

The first half of Death Note is still quite good. Even though I still absolutely, now and forever, call bullshit on the JUST AS PLANNED scene. It requires an entire sequence of coincidences beyond Light's control or ability to plan that is extremely unlikely to happen.

Earlier today I found out that Spirit Circle was completed, I have now finished Spirit Circle. Man that was such a good series, I kinda wish we had an epilogue like in Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer. But at least it concluded in a satisfying way which I can't really say for most series I've read. Even if it did end with a lot of unanswered questions like the 4 beings in white, and aliens. Is this author working on anything currently? I'd love to read more of his work.

It's extremely enjoyable and I'm liking it a lot, L and Light's psychological games are really well-written and in general they explain their thinking and it makes logical sense without jumping to Sherlock levels of "you are the killer because I saw this soap on a green bathtub". Apart from the "I will interview each of you to determine you're not Kira" scene happening off camera the writer has also avoided the trap of just saying a character is smart without showing it. Even though initially Misa is a big spanner in Light's plans especially mentioning shinigami and the eyes it seems she's a huge advantage to Light. I can't really remember the final sequence of events that lead L's death. I had quick look on the wiki yesterday but it was fairly bare bones and I figured I'd watch it soon anyway. I does mention though that when Light is finally brought to justice it's because of events L set in motion. I think I read a synopsis of the end before and it ends with a SWAT team shooting Light to pieces.

I ended up ordering the first two black edition volumes too.

Oh no, the ending's way better :allears:

(Death Note ending spoilers!)

Light's not shot by a SWAT team, he's shot by Matsuda. After he gets exposed to his team as Kira he tries to kill the detective who exposed him, thinking "With him out of the way I can spin this around with words and save myself", but Matsuda goes into a rage, shoots the pen out of Light's hand and then riddles him with bullets. The investigation team has to physically pull Matsuda back from Light to prevent him from shooting Light in the head.
And then Light's killed by Ryuk using his Death Note, because Ryuk had told Light at the very beginning of the series "I'll kill you once this becomes boring", and Light being caught means he gets put away forever and that's super boring.

For all the flaws Death Note's second half has, the ending is loving fantastic.
