i remember finding a really old snes emulator back in the day (vsmc?) that ran something like 3 games at 2 fps with no sound and the developer wanted something ridiculous like $30 in mid-90s money to unlock it so that didn't stop after 3 minutes. come to think of it, a lot of those old terrible emulators were shareware and pretty expensive considering that they barely workedThanks Ants posted:when did the n64 emulators come out that only worked right on glide? remember playing mario with an n64 pad hooked up through some weird converter to a game port. iirc one of the more popular n64 video plugins as of a few years ago was still being developed for glide because the developer was a basement dwelling turbo sperg who apparently couldn't afford a video card made after 1999

and then seemingly out of nowhere, final burn showed up and dumped playable versions of the entire cps2 library in our laps i remember being more impressed with the story about how they got the encryption keys off the board than with the games

I wish his site was still up but a lot of special chips were decapitated by one dude who went by Dr. Decapitator. This is normally difficult and really expensive and we got this one dude to thank for a lot of working emulation E: there's a bit of his site left on the archive https://web.archive.org/web/20110725201553/http://decap.mameworld.info Fabricated fucked around with this message at 18:13 on Aug 29, 2017 |

the set of all people able to obey copyright law, run a business and monetize a product over here the set of all people able to write a playable "emulator" that might not emulate so much as kludge and hack its way to decent framerates over there everyone who just wants to understand how that old poo poo worked well enough to make their computer run the same instructions it did, you can just leave cause what you want isn't important
