The funny thing is that Michael Porter (possible number one pick, favorite out of the gate) kind of plays like a 6'8 Kyrie. He's a great shooter, he gets to the line, he gets buckets (at camps). He also offensive rebounds super hard like Tobias Harris, that's my mean comparison for Porter, a long Tobias Harris. Not a defender or a passer at this point. It's not a perfect 1:1 of course, you could say Porter has an "improving" handle, not the best in the NBA, necessitating special shoes and all that.

The Cavs traded Kyrie for the only starting pg who's a worse defender than he is, and also signed Calderon who hasn't been able to guard anyone for his entire NBA career. It's funny, to me, personally, it's nothing personal

RPM has a bunch of guys between Irving and IT (who is the worst). Guys like DJ Augustin, Shroeder, Trey Burke. Also IT has some daylight between him and Kyrie in terms of points given.

That said, Boston showed that IT's bad defense wasn't a big deal in the playoffs, and Cleveland has been able to manage Kyrie fairly well. To be honest, that changed my mind about (healthy) IT after the regular season. Overall the concern of "PG Defense got worse" seems like it it's pretty low on the list of concerns.

PG defense doesn't mean a drat thing IMO.

Like if you have a good defensive PG who can execute your offense sure. Great. But PG is probably one of the easiest positions to hide on defense.

Steals matter somewhat, and if you are able screens without switches that's kinda nice. Otherwise you can usually scheme around the rest. It has an impact, but it looks like the impact is pretty small.

PG defense matters if your guards are unwilling to even try to fight through screens, but Kyrie and IT both usually at least work at getting through, which is why I'd rather have either of them on a good team than some other dudes. There isn't really a stat for that, though.
