This storm has apparently dumped more rain than like three other hurricanes combined. I'm not one to conflate weather with climate, but there does seem to be a pattern of worsening weather. My question is how long Republicans can keep denying until the public realize this poo poo ain't supposed to be normal. I mean, I know the plan is "hope to be dead before then," but there's now a whole generation of idiots who will have to take the blame.

Well, they can continue to keep an iron hold on climate science and findings about climate, but I think it's going to devolve to the point where denying that climate change happening will be like the fireworks scene from Naked Gun. Right now, climate change is a fairly abstract concept that they can rail against and call "socialism" or "a Chinese hoax" or whatever. Nobody's really feeling a direct impact that they can trace back to global warming. But as huge, catastrophic storms keep happening, and more often, it's going to get harder to deny that something's up. All the authoritarian rule in the world can't suppress that forever.

In an ideal world there would be two or more relatively decent choices that give you a chance to really voice how you view the country should go. Instead we have one option that can be kind of iffy versus a choice that is steadily going completely insane.

Not literal Nazis but there's a strong racist / nationalist trend in politics at the moment. Putting refugees in concentration camps run in client states in the Pacific dates back to 2001 (shortly before September 11 / the invasion of Afghanistan, although there is a link given it was response to an influx of asylum seekers from the region). It's not a recent thing.
