The AV nerd monster truck mad scientist, the master, the master's girlfriend, all these people ARE concepts that the appliances, which are really the people, strive toward or are guided by, concepts like love, chaos, purpose, and fertility. so you see, it is not that these appliances are hollow things looking to be filled by serving some master in a hierarchical relationship. It is a story about people who are looking to serve the master that is in actuality the concept of a higher, non-doing state of being.

I've never seen the version you posit in any serious historical work, and it would be all the more an odd one since Rasputin hadn't been in direct communication with Nicholas for quite a while before his murder.

I think I just misremembered a bunch of stuff from Yusapov's memoirs, but Yusapov was absolutely convinced that Rasputin was part of some conspiracy to bring an early peace.
