He basically just needs to be able to get the puck and do something with it that isn't immediately turning it over to the nearest opponent.

It's going to be great to have two RHD who can play the power play. It's been 5+ years since the Rangers had three viable righties between two power play units. No more are the days of a power play unit of five lefties all on one side of the ice or Dan Girardi on the power play.

hah. haha. hahaha.

You know somehow Shattenkirk will end up on PP2 and McDonagh and some rando will be playing the point on PP1

DeAngelo may or may not make the team

I assume AV will be deploying Shatty for ozone faceoffs whenever possible. That's probably the best way to use him.

Yeah, thing is that it'll probably be best to get him as many minutes as possible since he's still obviously their best RD, but if you need a defensive zone matchup you'll want McDonagh and...Shattenkirk still? Smith? I don't think they'll want to use Skjei and Smith as a defensive deployment pairing on the regular and the 3rd pairing is gonna be Staal and a rookie or Holden...hahah oh wait there it is. Staal and Holden for "defensive situations" so they can give up goals

Did we talk about how a couple of NHL teams (Rangers and Vegas seem to be the most mentioned) are potentially going to sign Denis Zaripov the 36 year old Russian winger who was suspended by the IIHF after testing positive for masking agents?

Seems like a very skilled player but who knows how a 36-37 year old would perform adjusting to the NHL. Could be PP specialist/soft minutes guy. The NHL just cleared him for a contract, apparently with the condition that he'll be tested more rigorously for banned substances than other NHLers.

Meaning they'll think about maybe testing him?

Often presumed to be yet another high double-digit proclamation of greatness -- Lindros was hailed as The Next One upon his being drafted first overall in the 1991 NHL draft -- but his 88 was actually a tribute to the father of a friend and junior hockey teammate. John McCauley was an NHL referee who wore 8 before becoming the league's Director of Officiating. McCauley, who died in 1989, mentored Lindros during his rise through the junior ranks, so the young center chose 8 as a memorial while playing for Detroit Compuware of the NAHL in 1989-90. When he moved on to Oshawa of the OHL later that season, 8 was already taken, so Lindros changed to 88.

I don't know where he'd fit into a Rangers lineup that already has seven NHL wingers plus Miller (wing/center) and Puempel (suited to the 13th forward role), but while I was checking I noticed...

Rangers have Bobby Farnham on a PTO? Look forward to some preseason fights, I guesss.

Fast won't be ready to start the season and Miller moving to center means a hole on the wing

That said I wouldn't rely on a 37 year old KHL player to come in a produce

I ventured onto the Flyers facebook page for Lindros reaction and hooooooo boy we have some stupid fans.

A lot of "WE SHOULD'VE KEPT FORSBERG BECAUSE WE WOULD HAVE ALL THE CUPS" poo poo, along with other Flyers that should have their numbers retired first, including Tim Kerr and Simon Gagne. There was also one guy who refused to acknowledge that Lindros was a big reason LeClair had the career that he did, and he very quickly resorted to calling people snowflakes and having your/you're usage issues.

Congrats Eric!!

Lindros and Forsberg put up similar career numbers and basically played the same amount of time. But in short, I think the argument (the Cup argument mostly) gets skewed due to the Avs being handed Patrick Roy for essentially nothing.
