While I think that this is generally still true, I think the big mistake you're making (and have made previously in this thread) is assuming that historical political trends can be applied to the present and future. I think that older people (or rather people who came of age long before the Great Recession) still make up a large enough portion of the electorate that the stuff you're saying still remains largely true, but that will only continue to change more and more as people who came of age in a completely different country and political environment become a larger portion of the electorate. I would be very curious to see how younger people vote if we end up with a "charismatic mainstream politician vs Sanders (or someone similar)" primary. I believe a lot of older voters who voted for Sanders based primarily off of distaste for Clinton might go to someone like Biden (despite his similar politics), but I doubt the same thing would happen with younger voters, who are probably generally more cynical than older ones regarding politicians.
