No way. It's an amusing game, but it's level of humor is nowhere near Paper Mario's. And it's sense of humor is different from it.

The real reason to get it is because it's a great strategy game. If that doesn't sound appealing, then I don't suggest making the purchase.

Welcome to Nintendo games. They don't get cheaper.

Mario Rabbids' sense of humour is basically poop jokes and slapstick. It's got good timing so it's made me laugh a few times, and the Rabbids come across way more as endearing idiots than annoying.

I don't see what's wrong with disliking a lovely publisher and deciding not to support games under their label. It's not like there aren't other good publishers out there for devs to go to. Nicalis has a bad rap for a bunch of good reasons.

That said, I do think Nicalis has at least tried to make things better with the more recent releases. Which is more than I can say for other notable big publishers that are still bad. The cave story + switch port is the only thing I was interested in by them, and it's okay.

Yeah, in retrospect that was dumb of me to say. I s'pose the thing that bugged me was dismissing a game immediately because of a publisher. If you'd otherwise be interested in it, at least wait for reviews.

I'm for sure renting the Mario Rabbid Xcom for a week just to see if it's my kind of game or not. Renting is a terrific option if anyone else still has local video and game rental stores. Mine has free kids movies and sells/rents porn, so that explains a lot.

really on the fence with this game. I can't help but feel like if it weren't the only "major" game since Splatoon I'd be way less tempted, but since I have so few options I just kind of want to blow the money and hope I like it

Yup, I just sold my copy for a few quid cheaper than what I paid at launch. Considering I got 100+ hours out of it I'm pretty happy with that.

Mario XCOM is amazing. Dashing and jumping adds way more strategy to these battles than I would have ever thought. Almost 100% the first world, just missing one chest and one challenge I need a skill I don't have enough points for yet.

The movement mechanics are really good. You can cover so much ground with them, and it rewards you for moving your units to similar spots while also avoiding the issue of having your characters bunched up.

So according to Wikipedia the Snowdrop engine that Mario + Rabbids uses is also being used for South Park: The Fractured But Whole.

Come on, Ubisoft, announce it already.

The movement radius is also just a set thing rather than a maximum number of ever-reducing steps. It's entirely possible to run over to an enemy, Slide through them, and then run back to the cover you were already using before taking a shot to finish them off.

They haven't "ruined" anything, but the game is a remake of Fire Emblem Gaiden, which was made before things like the Weapon Triangle and Time Travel Babies. There are supports but no offspring or anything. Also there's some 3rd person dungeon crawling and random encounters on the map screen (which can get a little tedious). It's a good game if you like Fire Emblems.

Having said that, so far Mario X-Com is fun.

It should be noted that the map design is horrid though since they had no idea what they were doing back then.

Oh yeah, the maps in general are a bit boring, but Chapter 3 in general sucks. I lost Celica to an unlucky crit or something at the end of a long desert map and just haven't gone back to it. :v:

Yeah a lot of the humour so far in Kingdom Battle is the Rabbids doing crazy/stupid things and the Mushroom Kingdom characters rolling their eyes or facepalming or whatever. I haven't gotten to the poop jokes yet.

Rabbid Peach is kind of funny though. #sassy etc.

XCom Mario is pretty great. I have a deep, visceral dislike of the Rabids and the weird random humour they're trying to inject. My Rabids annoyance curve really peaked to dangerous levels in the first five minutes of the game and after that it's just flatlined with a few blips here and there. Which was really my only worry when buying this game since everything else about it seemed 100% up my alley.

If they had used literally any other franchise other than the idiot Rabids this would be a perfect game.

Pretty sure in game they referred to Rabid Peach as "he".

Got it Monday and am on world 2-8, its been pretty entertaining/good thus far. The only thing is that exploration is boring as gently caress. Not sure whether I should backtrack for the power orbs now, knowing i'll still miss a bunch and have to backtrack again, or just wait until the endgame to go back with every environmental ability at once.

Challenges look like they'll actually be somewhat difficult and require very specific heroes in very specific spaces with very specific talent builds.

I don't think video game rental really exists anymore for the most part and your only options are Red Box (don't have switch games) or Gamefly (glacial shipping/receiving times, competing with other customers who want the latest video games so you might not get it quickly) at least in the US

Now how could Beep-O possibly know Rabbid Peach's preferred pronoun? I submit Beep-O could not. Nor could anyone since these Rabbids aren't talking. Assuming that all Rabbids are male, being merged with a poster of the female princess peach may result in a creature who prefers one pronoun, none, or either. Look forward to my five thousand word essay on this subject which will be published on [insert website you don't like here].
