First the game was delayed, then it was delayed to add DRM, then my CE was delayed. The Sonic cycle was coming from outside the game. But drat, what a fine Sonic this is. VagueRant posted:DRM bullshit aside, what's the situation with controllers? Because I plugged in a PS4 dualshock so I could use a d-pad and there's no option. The DS4 is a lot better, argh.

The kick in the teeth is that they didn't tell people. You going to fly denuvo, have the balls to say it at the store page before people play the game and swallow your always online pill, SEGA. Well that and its still a drat good game to pull this poo poo on. You're scared of piracy on a $20 official fan game? What a pointless little cycle of drama for something you're going to take out probably in 2 weeks.

Also, because of the delay, if you accepted the Sonic 1 compensation gift you can't request refund due to the time limit on the product expiring, you have to appeal. Preordered items refunding are only valid for two weeks after release. It's the perfect last punch. MikeJF fucked around with this message at 06:23 on Aug 30, 2017 |

My controller-based story is that the only button on my wireless xbox-controller-for-pc the game accepts is the right bumper button, but will then not accept that or any button presses on the "this game uses an autosave feature" OK button. I mean, it'll accept it as if I'm pressing it, but it won't move to the next screen. Tried using Steam's Controller Settings, but it's a complete mess and it's not helpful to figure out what button(s) the game expects me to be pressing.

MikeJF posted:Actually, for a game like Sonic Mania where it's doing software rendering and streaming 60FPS to the graphics card instead of having the card render, it may be more relevant. Denuvo impacts the CPU-bound processes but not the GPU-bound ones, and unlike most games Mania is all CPU for the graphics drawing as well as computation. Even if it's relatively lightweight, I wouldn't be surprised if Denuvo gets fucky with trying to maintain the 60FPS draw update. Sonic mania uses software rendering?! Whoa. Where did you read that? I guess you can get away with it, but still... most modern 2D games use the GPU quite a lot.

I finished Sonic Mania and it was alright, it's definitely a classic sonic game, for better or worse although I agree with the assessment that it's the best 2D sonic so far, at least? The PC port's pretty poo poo though, controller support is wonky and the basic option of scaling the window doesn't actually seem to work in game, you have to edit the config files? pain in the rear end to get working but it killed a good 3 hours when it did at least, I've had worse evenings

This game feels at odds with itself. It had big sprawling levels that I love to explore and find the nooks and crannies in, then also a 10 minute time limit. Did anyone else abuse Tails ability to fly Sonic like I did? I still gotta get the emeralds, only managed to nab 4 before the end, Emerald 4 was a loving monster to grab

I kept having issues with the emerald stages until I just started focusing on keeping up with the UFO. In some cases you can nab it without mach 3 speed.

Ya, DRM poo poo aside the game is great. I streamed up to Oil Ocean zone last night and then went back to replay a few zones, they're so moreish. Special zones are a bastard though. Crazy satisfying when you get it right but hella difficult to nail the right balance (while not eating a bottomless pit or massive spike bomb). E: ohh, I might try playing keep up later. That sounds like a good idea!

It sucks but Mania 2 might be made without Headcannon. Stealth is a wicked smart programmer but at least they have the foundations made. Aaron Webber seemed pretty talkative about it on Twitter too but maybe as the literal voice of the people as far as Sega's concerned, he has the leeway to It sucks and I can see all of them getting slammed a little for this but also Sega royally hosed them with the PC release. They knew this would happen and they knew who would have to bear the brunt of the anger. It feels vaguely Valve-esque of them. Emong posted:Oil Ocean is legitimately my favorite Zone in Sonic 2. Eh, this delay and DRM stuff is making the rounds in the media, overshadowing the release of the game I'm sure they are extremely proud of and feel very connected to. I can understand burning some bridges with the people responsible for loving it up, even against your better judgment.

Muscle memory doesn't help when you beat the boss but then it locks Sonic in place and the boss does one last Level Destruction gently caress You. And then you die because your character falls under the oil ocean and you can't do anything about it. e: And I'll be the dissenting voice by saying that I hated the Metal Sonic fight. The gimmick was neat until it became frustrating as gently caress, like the fight went on for a good four minutes until my will was drained and I just died because I was getting bored. The next round I realized you can just do the drop spin dash for a guaranteed hit, but then there was no challenge and it was even more boring.
