Edit: and Bugs Bunny had his earlier head shape, too. They made sure to get all of that right.

That was weirdly specific and passive-aggressive, though I can somehow imagine the animators were totally down for it. And it makes sense to have the main and secondary company mascots playing off each other in the only opportunity to do so. Apparently, Betty Boop's appearance in that movie caused a resurgence in her popularity to some extent, as a symbol if not her cartoons themselves.

Watched Terminator 2 3D at the cinema the other day. I was very impressed by the little attention to detail of editing Arnie's face over the stuntman's during the storm drain scene, that always bugged me as it was so obviously not Arnie beforehand. Also, I never thought about it before, but the inflatable dinosaur hanging from the ceiling at the Cyberdine lab isn't just decoration, but nicely appropriate as Cyberdine are arguably the architects of extinction.

I've only recently noticed that Arnie spends 3/4 of Terminator without eyebrows, as the terminator gets caught in a fireball early on.

IIRC in some of the behind the scenes stuff on Wreck it Ralph Capcom and Nintendo had a back and forth like this during the early Villains meeting. The dailies would come back and Bowser would be a little bigger than M. Bison so Capcom wanted Bison bigger. Then Nintendo wanted Bowser bigger again. It went back and forth a few times.

I'm picturing the animators always making one bigger on purpose, trying to see if they can get Capcom and Nintendo to the point where they're both absurdly huge and clipping through the ceiling.

Extra amusing given Bowser's never been the same size twice. And often changes size within games.

It's almost certainly been mentioned before, but I saw it again today so.. In Jurassic Park, when Nedry runs into a dinosaur as he's making his escape he nervously refers to it is 'Nice Boy'. All the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park were bred female. It reinforces the fact that Nedry never paid any attention to the science behind the park.

Let's be fair - everything a two year old sees goes in its mouth and they learn by imitation. Furlong is for sure a lovely parent who was getting coked up when he should have been looking after his kid, but it's very unlikely that he was giving his toddler a line. He probably just didn't clean up properly after himself and the kid did what Daddy does.

In Princess Mononoke, the Emperor's samurai really don't play an important role in the film. They only show up to get dunked on by Ashitaka's newfound cursed strength, get blown back from Iron Town, and offer Jigo the job of killing the forest spirit. However, while they're not a major player in the plot, they have a lot to do with the film's theme of modernization inevitably defeating nature. The film ends with the balance restored for the time-being, but it is clear that it is still a battle nature lost. Enter the Emperor and the Samurai. They don't represent an immediate threat, but an existential one. Ashitaka's tribe, the Emishi, were massacred by the Japanese centuries earlier, and had slowly been dying out until all that was left was his village. Ashitaka's departure from the village marks their final end, as without him, they are without a prince, and their royal lineage will fade into nothing. When he travels across Japan, Ashitaka witnesses the Samurai slaughtering villagers, and then later, they besiege Iron Town at the worst possible moment. The samurai are the inevitable future, and the future is bloody. It's also important to point out that the film is set in the period immediately before the Warring States Era, when the Japanese really started to solidify into one people rather than numerous tribes. By the time the Muromachi period ends, Japan is a world of humans, not spirits. And when the spirits of nature are gone, the humans will turn on themselves, and a century and a half of bloodshed will follow. The Emperor is not an immediate threat, but he is encroaching, and for all the effort that the characters go through in the film to restore the balance between industrialized humans and nature, it's all for nothing since down the line, humans will win. Miyazaki really wasn't in a good mood when he made this film.

impulse 7 effect posted:Haven't seen this but interested in role the Jigo character plays as in the game Go this means 'draw'. Jigo is a wild card and his intent to kill the forest spirit is what forces the ceasefire at the end. The emperor wants the head of the spirit because he believes it will make him immortal, and Jigo takes the job in return for a pardon and a load of cash. When the spirit loses its head it turns into a wall of death, and only by returning it's head will it undo the destruction. However in doing so, the spirit finally dies. It sets both iron town and the forest spirits back to even ground, but with the implication that next time there won't be a tie, and someone is going to lose badly.

Fight Club is basically a movie full of subtle moments but one I noticed on a rewatch is how early in the movie you see Tyler and the Narrator having to walk back to the Paper Street house. Later in the movie after all the Project Mayhem stuff has taken off you see the Narrator getting dropped off right at his front door by an empty bus.
