If you're coming in with a 3 year commitment and snow bird for a while after graduation, then it's possible to get out after 2 or 3 years from the time you leave BOLC.

I ended up stopping for gas and a quick snack in uniform in middle of absolute nowhere Texas once, and at first it was just a lot of "thanks for your service" and asking about where I am stationed, etc., and then as I was leaving the Vietnam Vet had to let out a big "Shame about that RAGHEAD MUSLIM PRESIDENT OF OURS!" to which there's no real response to some rando civilian other than "bye."

Soldiers are people and I can't blame them for jumping on acceptance but just like in my OPSEC brief, I try to live by example. I always harp on is that the uniform carries a responsibility to defend all Americans, even the ones you loving hate; therefore, if you can't keep yourself from popping off at the mouth about some political differences, how are you going to act in their interests too? Maybe it's simplistic and altruistic, but it really bugs me when people can't even pretend to walk the walk for a loving minute.

Speaking of awkward civilian experiences while in uniform, I had to help an Army Birthday event at a VA hospital when I was a butter bar. We ordered a cake from a local grocery store instead of from the commissary. When I went to pick it up I had another female LT with me since she was the one who planned it. As we were walking out with the cake some old crusty Vietnam vet comes over to me and starts talking about the Army, he noticed my CIB and started in on his joys of committing war crimes. Talking about pulling teenage boys out of their homes and killing them for being VC. At that point I start to leave because gently caress that noise. As we are getting into the BN van he notices the other LT, and that she's a woman and starts shouting through my window about how, and I quote, "cunts are going to ruin the Army," as I drove away.

Soldier who didn't clear in time is still a loving retard. I got my only two NCOs taking turns babysitting him (and acting as his personal chauffeur. I still don't understand how a 24 year old man doesn't know how to drive) as he clears. He's out of the Army today and just completed his last ACAP, finally did his phase 2, and still has CIF, and everything else. He cut himself and bled over all his CIF. Because he was too lazy to clean it and someone there told him they'll take anything with blood on it back no questions asked. Clearing him out of the Army was delayed 6 hours because of the giant cut in his leg that required 34 stitches. But he managed to get blood on every single piece of his TA-50.... I mentioned reupping because he's going to loving straight up be homeless and living underneath a bridge when he gets out of the Army, but he said no because he has a great job lined up making 6 figures when he gets out.

Apparently from what the other NCOs who worked with him told me he was overweight and failed every single one of his APFT's for the last 3 years.
