Which playoff series did actually break teams? The 2011 SCF seems like the obvious first choice, but what else? Maybe Leafs-Bruins 2013 but I don't know if the 2013 Leafs counted as not-broken to begin with.

But one could argue that was coming no matter what. I'm not sure playoffs can really break teams. See Boston coming back a year after being up 3-0 and losing to Philly, and San Jose recovering from the same vs LA.

Yo I've not followed pro hockey in like ten years, what did I miss. Saw my old mediocre-as-hell hometown-ish team CBJ were in the playoffs last year, that's p. neat. I live outside North America now, is NHL.tv generally of good quality for catching poo poo on-demand, since live games are at like 3am my time? I'd say 2012 where the Canucks won the President's Trophy again and got swept in the first round is what broke them, not 2011. At least, that's what broke me.

Traded for Bolland. Signed Clarkson. Bought out Grabovski. Gave Bozak a huge deal. I mean, it turns out buying Grabovski was the right move.

NHL.tv has been decent if you don't have to deal with blackouts. Games that aren't blacked out should be immediately available for replay but if a game is blacked out you have to wait 48 hours. Gamecenter isn't available in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden because of other deals they have. Your profile says Germany though so you should be good there. In Europe you should be mostly free of blackouts, except what's shown by NHL partner channels in your country (if they have one.) NHL site says in Germany the ones applicable to you are Sport 1, and Sport 1 US. Even not watching live, a blacked out game means the replay only goes up 2 days later instead of immediately.

I wonder if Parise stays and Suter comes on board (which leads to Kovalchuk staying) if the Devils beat the Kings. Hall/Parise/Kovalchuk/Suter/Schneider would be a fun core to watch lose in the 1st/2nd round though you have to admit (even if those trades don't happen).

The Caps are notable in that they were historically good, then deliberately changed their style and makeup to be more playoff-oriented (which was dumb), hired a couple of idiot coaches to fight with their star, and wouldn't go back to winning the President's Trophy for 6 years.

Always will be controversial, but i don't think you can peg the Carter / Richards trade as a bad trade. Bryz's contract was godawful, and really the big nail in the coffin to me was Lecavlier's contract plus trading JVR for Luke loving Schenn.
