I thought the Garro book was fine, I had never really bothered with the stupid audio dramas so it was nice to get caught up.

I started to and got about 30 books in, but I got hosed off with the filler, anthologies and key storylines being audio-book only (I refuse to purchase an audio book). Then my copy of Angel Exterminatus came in a stupid oversized format and I just gave up. I brought MoM on the Kindle because ADB rarely misses, but I've given up on the series until this thread says "OMG we're at earth and it was awesome!".

I have no idea what happened to Loken, no idea what Garro is doing, what's going on with the proto-inquisistion and honestly don't care. My obsessive need to have the entire series got cured by GW's cynical milking of their cash cow.

I love the smaller, well written arcs like First Heretic/Know No Fear/Betrayer and Thousand Sons/Prospero Burns and thanks to this thread can still kind of keep up with what I want without having to sit through any more Eversor family drama or primarch anal plugs. I can't blame someone new to the setting for wanting a recommended path to weed out the crap.

(also, £10 per book on the Kindle? Nope)

This is pretty much exactly what I am trying to avoid. Right now I am continuing the published order and am most of the way through Flight of the Eisenstein. I do not listen to audiobooks so I will be skipping those and disappointed to hear that some of them contain key storylines. If anybody can help with that it would be appreciated. The super confusing chart on the wiki page for HH is the best I have found.

Most of the audiobook only things (that matter, at least) have at this point been novelized and put into the various collections. The most important audio drama only thing was really the Garro stories and one of the newest books in the series is the collected novelization of them.

The new Lucius book is a decent read.

http://www.blacklibrary.com/all-products/the-faultless-blade-ebook.html

Having almost to my suprise quite enjoyed Fabius Bile: Progenitor, I thought i'd give the other new Emperors Son book a try and it too was better than I would have thought going in.

Nice to see Black Library is bringing in newer authors as well.

Edit: Also as sworn almost a year ago still successfully holding the line on no buying new Horus Heresy books until 'No poo poo, drop pods are actually hitting the surface of Terra'

I meant primarchs. The Talon of Horus says that '...Abaddon wields the talon that killed two Primarchs.' Who was the second?

Also regarding Talon, I wasn't aware any 1K Sons made it to the siege of Terra. Is that expounded later?

I think I know the answer to this question but has Dan Abnett continued the Eisenhorn vs Ravenor trilogy past the first book?

And speaking of Abnett, there was never a sequel to Double Eagle, was there?

I read he is actually writing a sequel now, as opposed to the past 3 years where he wasn't writing poo poo due to Black Library management issues.

There's an interview with editor Lauren Golding a few pages back going into details, but long story short;
Accounting took over Black Library, everything went to poo poo.
It's why we've had the deluge of HH filler books, and why the good authors put out less.

E: they recently went back to their old way of doing things, and as a direct result Abnett is back, since the management shitstorm is why he nope'd out.

I've been out of the loop on 40k books for several years now (I think the last book I read when it was "new" was Fulgrim?), a couple questions:

Have there been any more Ciaphas Cain books since Cain's Last Stand?

Have there been any books with/about Necrons that are worth my time? I think Necrons are neat, and I'm even pretty okay with the backstory overhaul they got in their last codex.

Have there been any more neat "reference" books like Xenology? That book was a hoot. I remember there being a Sabbat Worlds book from around the same time, too?
I know it's WH Fantasy, but I've also got Liber Chaotica.

Deptfordx
Dec 23, 2013

Yes. There's been 3. http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Ciaphas_Cain_(Novel_Series)

Yes and no. They've been antagonists or minor characters in some stuff, but I can't think of any books where they're primary protagonists with stuff from their viewpoint. The World Engine and Fall of Damnos has them as primary antagonists.

The Visions of Heresy books, are art books for the HH. Can't think of any others offhand.

Also Hammer and Anvil, which is a decent enough book, and noteworthy for being one of like two books ever where the SoB are the primary protagonists.

There's a convention coming up in early October here and Dan and Nik are guests of honour. I'm doing SJ Games demos at it so I'll be there in work mode rather than fan mode, which means there's a decent chance I'll get to have a chat in the committee room or something and hopefully I won't lose my poo poo and look like a total :derp: like I did when I met him last time. I'm halfway through and it's pretty drat enjoyable. I appreciate the understanding ADB puts out there about the nature of chaos, how it came to be, and ultimately how the space marines aren't their first or last victims.

It's also neat to finally realize that there really are no 'legions' in chaos other than the black legion. LIterally everyone is just a warband of a varying size. The demon prince primarchs give 0 fucks about their damned legions now, because they have infinite fun space to manipulate and god like power, or they are slaves to their patron god and the great game. Abaddon and the black legion is really the only bet for the traitors to actually have a 'primarch' (Vegan Horus, really) and anything resembling the brotherhood/camaraderie they once had during the crusade.

It's nowhere near London though. Basically the only GW thing of note in the city is the location of the original store in Hammersmith which is long since replaced by something else.

Well I'm sold.

Looks like the cheapest copy on Amazon is about $12 shipped, that's a little more than I'd like to spend on a paperback, but that's okay. It looks like the prices are even higher on eBay.
