the problem with ipas (aside from the larger issues of alcohol consumption) is that it's a manifestation of elitism when it comes to drinking "oh you can't appreciate the finer notes of this beer? guess you don't have a sophisticated enough palate, you pleb"

i like IPAs as but a lot of breweries (especially here in CA for some reason) treat them as an arms race to see who can get the most hops into them, at the expense of the other flavors. A well balanced IPA is great but unfortunately they're few and far between

i love it when you ask a fucker what the difference is between an ale and a lager and he says "one ferments on the bottom and one in the top" as if that has any bearing whatsoever on answering the question i want answered lager isn't cool tho at the moment but i don't even get what makes one like what is the characteristic difference also between an apa and ipa

current drink: rodenbach grand cru it's a really good beer and seems to be one you can get pretty easily outside of dutch speaking countries (rodenbach is owned by palm who are a big belgian brewer/distributor). it's a sour, but it's not very sour. got a rich, fruity taste with a fair bit of sweetness, recommended if you want to try that style for the first time up next is some oude geuze boon, iirc it's a bit more sour but still nothing too serious. also a fun name to say (OW-de ghghghghuhwze bohn) big scary monsters fucked around with this message at 23:42 on Sep 6, 2017 |

IPAs are good for the summer. Stouts are good for the fall and winter (and also anytime), a properly sparkly Imperial Pilsner is good for the spring.
