I have a question -- was the first TAZ actually an episode of MBMAM, or how did that work?

It was something they had talked about for a little while, and they didn't have quite enough live shows in reserve to fill the gap while Justin was on podcast paternity leave. So instead of recording a regular MBMBaM in advance, they decided to do something special. It turned out to be a lot more special than anyone could have guessed.

Oh man, I just realised that Charlie and The Adventure Zone are almost the same age.

Ok, weird, as a pretty new fan of MBMBAM, I've been sort of randomly jumping around different episodes for the past two weeks, I've listened to fewer than 10 at this point, but 97: Stevurkel was one of them. :stare: I thought 'wow, did I just listen to the TAZ idea hatching? Neat!'

Yeah I've been listening to old episodes while catching up on WoW and there are some great bits in the 110 - 130s. Also there are a few yahoos that come in courtesy of Nick Robinson, which is real weird now.

Nick Robinson was once just a regular MBMBaM fan just like you or me, then he became Griffin's co-worker and frequent video production partner at Polygon, so it was weird hearing his name on early MBMBaMs. Then he got fired for beeing a creeplord, so it became even weirder.

Boy, Griffin really leaned into the Griffin-speak this week on MBMBaM, huh? I usually enjoy the purposeful mispronunciations and weird sentence cadence, but it's like he was doing a Griffin McElroy impression and emphasizing it. I still enjoyed the episode though v:shobon:v

He does this all the time now. If we're talking about the same thing, which is the same kinda voice he does when he talks about "South Park humor" (for example). It was a once-in-a-while voice before but now his "normal" voice only seems to come out a little

If that's not what you were talking about then that is what I'd like to suggest.

This got mentioned last page, but the Audio Entropy network has exactly this, it's called Teenagers With Attitude. They people on that one also do a podcast for the saban dub of digimon called Digital Moncast. That podcast that got mentioned in the last Money Zone, DCOMedy, is also on that network.

Yeah I listen to a few of theirs because of the ad they did in Adventure Zone. And DCOMedy got a hell of a good ad this week.

I like Audio Entropy. I contribute a bunch of questions to their various shows. Their shows are weird, more hosts than you would generally think are advisable, sometimes hosts obviously browsing the web and not paying attention, one time one even admitting he was watching porn at the time, and more discussions of host fetishes than you would expect, but despite all that is actually rather endearing and charming. They are exceedingly honest and open guys and girls. And their pod quality has gone up a lot especially since they got an editor.

Griffin and Rachel's new podcast is pretty cool. It scratches an itch for non-cynical, earnest discussion of things that are cool and nice without being boring. It's a bit unstructured so far but I'm sure they'll refine it a bit as they go.

Also there's a new Facebook monster factory thing, it still has that weird editing style but it's honestly not that bad.

It's missing the "playing the game" part of monster factory, and the editing is not very good, but it still scratches the itch that TTS left behind.

My guess is they are trying to reach a slightly broader audience. My wife couldn't care less about the gameplay of the monsters that are created, but she enjoys the hell out of watching the creation of said monsters.

It gets the bare-bones basics of what makes it good, while still having something beyond just creating the character since they need to make art and all. I think it's pretty good, and keeping it in below-10-minute chunks is a good idea, I think.

The Chomp Mom ep did have a couple of minutes of goofing around in the game before getting to the art-making.

It's no replacement for MF proper but it fills a niche I think. It also allows them to get more mileage out of each game, assuming they'll move on from Skyrim (Todd's masterpiece) at some point.

The only ones that really even remotely fell flat gameplay wise were the MMO ones, and any point in a Bethesda game in which they weren't under the influence of console commands. IMO, at least.
