things i like about the game so far (just got through the Buckler encounter)

-Mario's Hero Sight upgrades are cheap compared to other character's special upgrades
-Luigi hasn't dabbed yet
-Rabbids aren't as loud and frequently screaming as I thought they'd be
-Gameplay is great
-what the gently caress why did they make rabbid mario the best character in the game

things I don't like

-doesnt tell me what the turn limit to get a perfect is until i finish the encounter
-first boss sucked
-game keeps crashing on trying to start challenge 1-9
-every time i buy a weapon a newer, better one becomes available almost immediately, curse my lack of self control

Excuse me the first boss owned, and the cutscene after owned even more.

its not the cutscene before that was annoying, it was watching dk grab my character, rubbing the character on his butt, and slamming it on the ground every time that was annoying me, because you can't fast forward that animation for some loving reason.

:psyduck: What? I didn't even know that was a thing he even did. The only attack of his that ever hit me was his wave blast thing before I figured out how to properly avoid it. Is that what happens when you use your character to step on the pad? I always just used Luigi's RC car to activate the button

edit:  Just had an amazing interaction I didn't even know was possible. I'm doing one of the world 1 challenges, and I used rabbid Mario to attack several of the smasher guys at once. This prompted both to come at me AT THE SAME TIME (which I didn't know was possible) and both of them were on either side of me. They both smashed down at the same time, and bounced not just me, but each other, one of them knocking the other out of bounds and killing him.

There are some times I wish that this game had a replay system cause that was amazing

If you have a rabbid step on the switch yeah he does that. If you have Mario or Luigi step in it he autonomy simply slams them into the earth

Man, I didn't even think about doing that, I thought DK would just smash it up. But yeah, DK does that and the animation goes on for way too long.

This happened to me as well. At the very least, Ubisoft seems to be aware of the issue. You can get through the boss fight without using any of the overwatch abilities, switch Yoshi out with Peach (Royal Gaze will usually hit one of the enemies as well as the boss, leading to Mario hitting one of the enemies when they move), or change your weapon configuration to be one that results in enemy movement for a critical hit.

Yeah I did this accidentally but that's gotta be a bug, right? Or does hitting the button once and not standing on it not matter?

I felt like I cheesed the hell out of it because the thing just sat there, never able to get close enough to his "hitbox" to actually detonate

I believe you only need to hit the button once so that you get rid of his stack of Bananas.

Even better, phase 2 and 3 where Rabbid Kong goes somewhere else and you have to get rid of the Bananas the sentry will actually start moving to his new position, so it's possible for that one sentry to be all you need to get rid of his Bananas for the entire battle.

I did find the secret level and beat it, but didn't perfect it.

Which "big cannon" is this? The only cannon that isn't the same size as all the others is the big one that sends you to world 1 in Peach's Castle. I feel like I combed every area and didn't find any area that I couldn't access without an ability I don't have (I don't have whatever the world 4 ability is)

Ones before the cannon dont count towards it, only ability you need to get everything is push.

That's the one. There's a chest that requires the push ability that's a bit towards the camera and right of the cannon that's easy to miss.

The year is 2053. Plumbing is dead. My name is Mario Mario. I am one of the last plumbers alive. In 2041, plumbing was made illegal and almost all plumbers were massacred in what is now known as "The Great Plumber Purge." I lived, but I lost my reason for living. Plumbing is dead. I live in the post-rabbidpocalyptic ruins of Neo New Donk City with my 12 year old adopted son Luigi. I've given him all I can but sometimes I wonder if it's enough...

Just collected it and that was indeed the one chest I'm missing. It's reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally stupid that chest counts toward the world 1 chest since it's in the hub world.

Spooky Trails was definitely when the game gets pretty Ubisoft, especially with enemies with nipple guns, two Rabbids watching the moon until one starts licking the other's face, Beepo doing a lot of implied swearing and also Rabbid Yoshi just existing in general.

Oh and the boss.

Still, that's not necessarily a bad thing.

I would rank bounce/push and fire above honey and freeze. All three trigger overwatch abilities and can lead up to 1-turn kills on a pretty much any enemy, although fire isn't as helpful as it can also get your temmates. Honey's just sort of situational.

I agree with this and would add that freeze is materially better than burn, which deserves to be on its own tier at the bottom.

Actually it was the level after I had trouble with. The one with the Boos.

I think I could take out the level easily on another try, but I forgot how Boos work the first time, and Luigi got teleported into the middle of the entire enemy force. Oops.

The boss, though. Mario, rLuigi, rMario. Killed all the basic enemies turn one. Boss dead by the end of turn 3. Rabbid Mario got shot like twice.

Ink is absolutely amazing though? Like Luigi can fire off 5 shots of it in a turn with his overwatch and normal shot and it just completely shuts down anythinh it hits for a turn.

Luigi wouls be completely unusable in later worlds with his poo poo health pool if he didn't have Ink.

Dizz posted:

I'm rather partial to Stone and Vampiric as the best effects, with Ink being solid third best (as disabling an enemy's standard attack options is incredibly powerful). While Honey can't activate Overwatches like Bounce can, I find it's effect of disabling movement more useful than potentially adding some extra damage by bouncing/pushing enemies out of bound if I'm lucky and the enemy's positioned right. I personally think Bounce is better than Push, though both kinda do the same thing in the end, are both rather situational effects, and I think the enemy makes better use of them than you do. That said, I find both better in the hands of the player than the Fire and Freeze effects which are both extremely situational and considerably more useful in the hands of the enemy, though I'm unsure which of those is actually the worst status effect in the game.

If I remember right:

Mario: Bounce and Honey
Rabbid Peach: Honey and Push
Rabbid Luigi: Fire, Push, Stone, and Vampiric
Luigi: Ink and Bounce
Rabbid Mario: Stone and Vampiric
Peach: Fire and Freeze
Rabbid Yoshi: Push and Stone
Yoshi: Unsure about his effects

Vamp is a good effect, but it's usually meaningless a lot of the times because enemies die really quickly. Rabbid Luigi's Vamp dash is a good way to heal friends though.
